eh, Sori might miss a day or two. the fact that the Yankees cannot beat the Red Sawx is a problem...a MAJOR problem. The Yankos dont need to beat the Red Sox. They have 9 guaranteed wins against the last place Blow Jays, VaGiants and Disastros to clinch a playoff spot and then everybody starts out 0-0.

I hope other people don't actually call those teams by those names. Is everyone in the third grade or something.

Joe Girardi is a moron.
David Phelps FINALLY came off the DL today, which is awesome, because we DESPERATELY need some kind of help in that bullpen. But Girardi has him coming into the game right now in the 7th inning of a game we are losing 7-1!
Why not put him in when Nova CLEARLY had nothing but somehow the game was miraculously only 4-1 and VERY winnable IF the Yankees could have held the score?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Joe Girardi is a STATISTICIAN, not a BASEBALL MANAGER. Girardi plays this righty/lefty crap like it's the gospel and goes with all of these numbers and ridiculous statistics and it fails him 100% of the time.
I really hope Joe Girardi does not get brought back next year. I'm over him. It was nice for a while, and we needed a change from Torre after 07....but enough is enough and we need a new manager again.

kinda feel dumb for wasting my time hoping the Yankees would continue the hot streak and get into the playoffs. well the ONLY slightly positive thing to come out of this nightmare season is that when Mo takes the mound at Yankee Stadium on the 24th it will officially be the final time. And the fans there will be able to give him the most incredible send off possibly ever.
Not to mention we know this coming sunday will be an amazing ceremony. kind of crapty though that he wont be able to get any more playoff saves....oh well. this season really was the donkey crapz.

9 games left and a team that scored 6 runs in 3 games against A LAST PLACE TEAM, which the only possible way they could make the playoffs is to go 9-0 maaaaaybe 8-1, the SEASON is not over....the chance of the Yankees making the playoffs is at best 1%. It ain't happening.

It ain't happening. A lot of teams like the 2009 Twins, 2011 Rays and 2011 Cardinals have snuck into the playoffs with a bigger deficit and fewer games to play. 88 wins is good enough to secure a Wild Card berth and all the Yankos have to go 8-1 against the lowly Giants, the collapsing Rays and the last place Astros. Texas and Tampa Bay are picking a suspicious time to go on 7-game losing streaks.

Jason Heyward is coming back today, thank God. Hope he can get back in the swing before the playoffs. We need him desperately.

Andy Pettitte is retiring (again) I'm quite sure for good this time. I wish he had never left for those 3 years in Houston or "retired" through 2011. One of my all time favorite Yankees. Even though he won't get a chance to add to that amazing postseason win total, it's kind of "full circle" that his last game is actually IN Houston. I kind of wish they could work it out where Pettitte started the final game of his career in the final game of this season.
Now the argument/discussion is....is Andy Pettitte a Hall of Fame pitcher? Personally, bias aside, I don't see how he couldn't be.
255 wins 2400 K's 5 World Series Rings 3x All Star Most poststeason wins of any SP
i mean he's not first ballot majority vote, but the only thing that they may hold over him is the HGH use. which is why he probably either won't get in because the voters are stupid, or it will take him at least a few "tries" damn i'm gonna miss Andy pitching. (again)

I always thought Pettite was, or at least borderline. Others say 100% no. I think the steroid stuff keeps him out for a while. Some voters will get him on the lack of elite arc he had...hes just been good for a while.
Rivera, Pettite.....Jeter you are next. RIP the Yankees of your youth.

He's never been an elite pitcher, never really been an ace either. This is a guy who has all of three all star appearances in his career. Personally, I wouldn't vote for him and that's without the PED stuff that he admitted to.

Pettitte is a Hall of Famer to me. He was a 4 time World Champion before he ever took HGH, and he only did it to try and injury. He should not be held in the same tarnish as guys who took ANABOLIC STEROIDS to cheat. Andy did not take STEROIDS, Andy took HGH 2 times to try and fix his elbow.
He's also over 100 games over .500 and there's like nobody in baseball history who is 100+ games over .500 and NOT in the Hall of Fame.
Andy was never the Ace, he was never the most dominant pitcher in baseball, but he always there and you could always depend on him. I can't even count how many times the "ace" would lose Game 1 of a Playoff Series and Big Game Andy had to dig deep in Game 2 to level the Series. Andy had the ability to get gritty and gut out games where he wasn't at his best, but still found ways to keep his team in it.
Unfortunately, The Boss didn't see Andy as valuable as the fans and his teammates did and we lost Andy to Houston for 3 years, but he came home and was one of the best pitchers we had in the 2009 Playoffs.
He's one of my favorite players ever, and just like when he tried to retire after 2010, I'll really miss him. I don't care that he's 41, I would have loved to watch him pitch for years if he'd decided to play more. He's just one of those guys, like Mo, who you just really never want to see go.
I'll really miss him. Even though he wasn't at his best this year, you could tell that nobody cared more. In a game that's all about overpaid superstars who make their mega millions no matter if they succeed or fail, and often times people like Robinson Cano and A-Rod dog it and play lazy and seem not to really care if they come up big.....NOBODY looked like they cared more than Andy Pettitte. You can read his emotions on the mound and you can tell he gets pissed with every mistake he makes and that he's just a true competitor who just wants to win and help the team. I'll take a team full of mediocre guys who CARE over a team full of indifferent superstars.
Even though it wasn't what we all hoped it would be and it didn't lead to a title, I'm glad he came back. I just love watching him pitch. It kinda sucks that I know I'll only see him pitch 2 more games, unless the improbable happens and they make the Playoffs.

Wins and All star appearances are the two stupidest reasons for Hall of Fame.
Honestly, the PED stuff will keep him out most likely, but I think he deserves it. If Mussina and Schilling get in, which I think they do, then Pettite should. Mussina and Schilling had higher elite time frames than Pettite but still relatively the same type pitcher.

I'd put Mussina in, but I've said before that I don't think Schilling deserves it. Neither does Pettite. Of course the HOF today would probably let me in as they've dropped the standards so much so it wouldn't surprise me if all three got in.

Side note am I the only one that finds it interesting that the Phils have played much better baseball under Sandberg? They're 18-15 under him which isn't earth shattering, but it is above .500 and they were 53-67 when he took over.
