Is it possible to clean up any small scuffs or marks off of hasbro figures without ruining the original paint job? I'm looking for a safe method to do this, if possible.

Nail polish remover work's great and it doesn't damage the original paintjob, well as long as you don't rub really hard.
Rubbing alcohol also work's wonder's.

Anyone tried one of those "wonder sponges" (don't know what they're called in the U.S.)?

I can help your out with this.
No to the nail polish remover...most of it will eat or discolor the paint.
There is a products called "Goo Gone" it's cheap simple and smells good. Put a little bit on a q-tip and rub gently...and bam they are gone. It's not an acid so it work eat the paint.
