2000-2001 and 2003 Smackdown. You couldn't beat Smackdown during 2003 when they had Angle/Benoit, Chavo & Eddie, Mysterio & Edge, and World's Greatest Tag Team

1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003.
I'm quite digging 2012 so far though, the quality's starting to pick up a bit.

I would say from 1997-2001 so basically the attitude era. I also liked the late 1980's as well.

I really like the Big Event show from 1986 as it was almost a pre-Wrestlemania III event showing they could sell out a huge venue but 1987 saw so much more talent in the same year. They sold out a huge venue and it was a PPV for all fans to see. Bruno was still around, Paul Orndorff, Bundy, Bob Orton, Kamala and Sika and Adrian Adonis were still around and then we had new talent come like Ted Dibiase, Hacksaw, One Man Gang, Demolition and Ultimate Warrior. Then we had Brutus Beefcake, Ricky Steamboat, Macho Man, Hart Foundation, Jake, Honkytonk Man really start to make a name for themselves.

I started watching on a proper weekly basis on 2001. It was a really fun year with the invasion story and I was young enough to believe the alliance where a threat.
I'd say from 2001 to 2004 was just one awesome time. 2002/03 where my favourite years with 03 being just better to me. 04 just for Benoit winning at wrestlemania. Loved champ Benoit.

I think it depends when you started watching. If you are under 20- you wont appreciate the greatness of the the 80s/early 90s as much.
That said 89-91 time period is when I got hooked so one of those years. But 97-98 got me excited again also liked the loaded roster of end of 2001-2002 even if it didnt always live up to potential.

Pretty much. I was reading through some old posts from the late 80s-early 90s on this old usenet ( groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.pro-wrestling/topics) that I found a while back and was surprised by all of the internet smarks and NWA fans that hated McMahon's "circus" and the whole era that is today considered by most as the best era (88-92) in pro wrestling/sports entertainment (just above the Attitude Era - maybe not at this board, but those two eras are always #1 and #2 in some order). It opened my eyes to negativity that was rarely seen other than in an occasional letter in a Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine or the like. The people online then were in their 20's and older (almost all have a .edu or .gov email listed), so their perspective was much different than the kid going to the show buying the Ultimate Warrior arm bands, Hulk Hogan shirt, or Hacksaw Jim Duggan foam 2x4 at the time. They were jaded after growing up on the pre-80s product which they viewed as superior because it had more blood and better "wrestling". In reality, it was a tremendous era because it took wrestling out of the small smoky dining halls and into the biggest arenas and stadiums in the world. The larger than life characters became pop culture icons and everybody wanted a piece of the WWF. They couldn't see that because they wanted what reminded them of when it was magic for them, when they were kids and had little knowledge of the reality of the performances. The same for the Attitude era. Many jaded fans that enjoyed the 80s and early 90s product were turned off, while there were plenty of people just getting into it that thought it was magical and still love that era most. In 15 years, the 10 year olds of today will be talking about how the WWE in 2027 stinks in comparison to when Cena, CM Punk, etc. were ruling the roost. Meanwhile the kids in 2027 will be enjoying what they are watching. It's an ever-repeating cycle.
