On the Self Destruction dvd everyone is saying how Warrior refused to perform at Summerslam in 91 unless Vince payed him a certain amount.
What are your thoughts on this?
I personally believe that it was most likely money that Vince owed Warrior, Vince had a nack for owing money and not paying it, so maybe Warrior felt he had to in order to get what he was owed?

I believe Vince's story for a couple reasons. Warrior's story doesn't make logical sense. He is owed money, so he is going to not work a show (Summerslam) which is going to mean a big pay day for him. Not only that, Vince would get him for breach of contract for not performing at Summerslam. While Warrior is a bit nuts, he is a fairly smart man. No showing SS would have cost him a lot of money, more than what Vince "owed" him.
I also feel Vince has been pretty forthright about his feuds and dislikes of certain wrestlers. He also doesn't mind saying when he screwed up. Warrior, on the other hand, has a grudge against McMahon. I think Vince would have copped to owing Warrior money if that was the case without hesitation, and would have said thats how business was conducted back then. To me, Warrior is more inclined to lie in this situation.
Finally, Vince canned him right after the event. I find it more likely that he fired Warrior for trying to extort more money out of him than firing him for threatening to collect on a debt owed. Just seems more logical

I don't believe Vince owed Warrior anything.
Warrior felt too big for his britches and seems to have a history of almost mental illness. He probably felt slighted from some pay offs and felt that by holding Vince up and refusing to work his highly advertised Summerslam match that Vince would give him a raise.
Too bad for Warrior that was a terrible idea and he got fired.
Only to get brought back...twice.
Screw The Warrior.

Warrior is a jerk for sure, but he's never come across to me as a liar.
Vince however is one of the most sleazy, slimy, gross liars I have ever heard of. He "bought" stampede wrestling from stu hart, took all his stars and then didn't pay him for it, so he was definately guilty of not paying for stuff.

The guy was a star at the time no doubt, but holding someone up for money like that and putting yourself in a position to lose your job, just not a wise move IMO. I do think like others said that Warrior's head blew up after he gained a little fame. Which a lot of celebrities/athlete's etc. do the same thing. However, to hold someone up for money to not perform is stupid and ridiculous.

I've heard that it was Hogan who actually told Warrior to hold up Vince for the money. I can definatly see this as being true since we all know how Hogan felt about anybody who shared the top spot w/ him.
As for if Vince owed Warrior any money or not, we don't know, but it has been confired that other guys were owed alot of money that Vince never paid, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did. But to me, Warrior is "nuts" and Vince is a liar, so I think that both of em are fabricating part of their stories to an extent.

The Warrior DVD is very one sided in WWE & Vince's favor. I'm sure Warrior may be a jerk but I really don't think he's as bad as they make out in the DVD. Some of the stuff they say about how Warrior never drew etc I believe to be absolute BS, anybody who was a young fan back then will say differently, I know I wasn't the only 7 year old running round the house with a painted face and tassles. Most of it is just WWE propaganda, all designed to make money and stroke there ego's. The truth is theres 2 sides to every story and we'll never know the truth

I know Nailz throttled Vince in his office because Vince wouldn't pay him money that he owed him.

Too many people share Vince's version of the story for me to believe Warrior. Moreover, the fees that Warrior had charged for his services over the years suggests a performer who has an inflated sense of his worth to the biz.
However, I'm glad he did it. It meant less Warrior on WWF broadcasts, which is a good thing in my estimation.

I definitely agree with the story being fabricated quite a bit. However, as crazy as Warrior actually seems to be, you guys don't think that he would have done something to that extent before?

Those arn't the kind of people to believe though... Vince, Hogan, Brisco, Patterson and Slaughter are all liars, they weren't exactly going to lose their job by disagreeing with vince.

Hogan's had bad bad blood w/ Warrior for years so whatever he has to say on the topic has to be taken w/ a grain of salt.

Vince is slime ball that took food off of the plate of thousands of families, exploited talent and stole an empire and to believe any of his revisionist history is ridiculous.

Great listen, but around 4 min mark he talks about how Warrior held vince up twice, and he warned mcmahon that it would happen. I take Ted's word over Vince or Warrior

Honestly, think Warrior is the one to believe in this situation. The guy is intense but seems to stick to his rules of honor and being true. There may have been some negotiation but that is different. Even if he was holding up the show, he was a HUGE draw and was probably due money.
