I remember before Taz's debut there would be an orange titantron interruption on Raw etc at random times. I was 7 years old at the time & had no clue what was going on but I found his debut to be pretty cool. I'm wondering if there are any videos around of this promos? I can't seem to find them(perhaps they will be on parts of full Raw eps on YT?). Thanks

I don't think dailymotion vids can be embedded here, but the promo is decent.

I remember it, Unfortunately for me I kind of worked out that it was Tazz before hand with the whole Orange and Black thing and previously reading that he'd just signed with WWF, still loved it though and marked out when Tazz finally debuted

Everyone knew it was Tazz after maybe 2 or 3 of those promos. Watch his debut vs. Angle at the Royal Rumble. The entire arena is chanting "We Want Taz."

After a few of those I and the majority of fans knew it was Tazz. Sadly though he debuted just before the Radicalz. I think the WWE were going to use Tazz similarily to how they used Benoit, but when Benoit and the rest of the Radicalz actually showed up not long after Tazz, Tazz was just forgotten about since they had Benoit now, who imo was always better than Tazz.

I realize that but I was 7 years old & had never heard of him. Thats cool, not critisizing a 7 year old. It was during the heyday of the internet rumor mill with constant rumors of "who is jumping to wwf/wcw/ecw." It was also obvious because the symbol that came up on the Titantron in black was one of Taz's tattoos. It was an interesting time to be a wrestling fan, especially if you were on the net with all the strange rumors going around. My favorite was Kane would be coming out in a green and black attire and join DX.

He was misused pretty badly. I would have loved to have seen him as a dominant Intercontinental Champion when he first came in, destroying everyone that challenged him but instead we got what we got.

Honestly in my opinion WWE's biggest up next to the treatment of Vader. Taz should have been pushed hardcore for about a year before clashing with Triple H or Austin over the title.

I'd say either him or Raven, possibly both. It's just sad to see how many ECW and WCW wrestlers could've made it big on the WWE and didn't do so.

Taz(z) really did get dumped on pretty bad. Not sure why...

Taz(z) really did get dumped on pretty bad. Not sure why... I think it was just bad timing on his part. He debuted literally just before the Radicalz. Once Vince had Benoit, he didn't need Tazz anymore. Had the Radicalz not jumped to the WWF, I think Taz would have gotten the push Benoit got in 2000. Benoit and Eddie jumping to the WWF ended any chance Tazz had at being pushed in the WWF.

That's probably true. I always just attributed it to Tazz being so short in stature. It seemed easy for them to dump on him because he wasn't nearly as big as Triple H, Taker, etc.
I don't even know if there's any truth to that at all. That's just what I always felt. I mean he debuted at Royal Rumble 2000 with some steam and a year later at Royal Rumble 2001 he lasts about 8 seconds in the Rumble...total burial.
Go to 0:53 for Tazz's entire 2001 Rumble time.

I never believed that rumor. Sure Tazz was pretty small compared to other guys, but we've seen smaller guys get pushed in the past. I believe it had more to do w/ Benoit and Eddie being bigger names and jumping at the same time as Tazz. It made Tazz expendible.

Heyman said it best, WWE promoted him as a tough 5'8'' guy, instead of just as a tough guy. ECW never treated him like he was little.
