Those that would have changed Wrestling History.

In this thread we will look at those we think would have changed the course of wrestling history if tragedy had not struck them.

I will start off with the first 3 obvious names that were destine for greatness but were cut down by either death, personal tragedy, or career ending injury.

Magnum T.A. - Car Accident
Gino Hernandez - Drug Overdose
David Von Erich - Drug Overdose/ Myocardial Infarction which caused a Heart Attack ( Depending on who you talk to)

Brian Pillman - Car Crash which lead to pain killer addiction and death
Nigel McGuinnes - Due to health issues had to retire from wrestling, shame as he was so talented.

I would say these would have gone on to do big things,

Magnum TA (would have been NWA champ running against Hogan)
Brian Pillman (Feud with Austin could have turned into Title feud)
Owen Hart (Would/Should have been a World title holder)
Mr. Perfect (Might have not wrestled much longer but would have trained future pro wrestlers with top expectations. I could have seen him running OVW/FCW as well.)
Davey Boy Smith (Like Perfect would have been a really good trainer for younger wrestlers.)
Droz ( I could have seen Droz doing more semi main to main if not injured)
The Von Erichs (Would still be running in Texas if not for the tragedies)

Those are my top ones.

Edit: How could I forget the greatest manager of all time.

Bobby Heenan. (Man what could have been both as a manager right now getting people over as well as a commentator. He would have done a lot more for the business if not for cancer)

I think Owen could have also gone on to become an excellent trainer if he was to re-open the Hart Brothers training camp. I heard prior to his accident he was planning on retirement in a few years to stay with his family.

as far as wrestling went Owen was in a cul de sac......however he could have produced legit greatness in someone through training.

As far as legitimately changing wrestling history, i think Magnum TA and Pillman are at the top of the list. Pillman unleashed during the Attittude era would have been legendary, especially if he never injured himself.

As for a lot of the others mentioned, guys like Owen, Eddie and Benoit were already established and probably reached their peak. I doubt they would have done much more in their career to change wrestling history.

I disagree about Eddie, at the time of his death he'd only recently established himself as a main eventer. I think had Eddie lived he would have gone in to produce good stuff with people like John Cena, Batista and orton, not to mention some of the fantastic matches he could have had with people like Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Heel Jericho, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler, I honestly believe from 2005-Present Eddie could have quite possibly had some of his best WWE matches through this period, especially in the main event picture. I think Eddie was one of the last few wrestlers WWE had that could "make" people through in ring performance. Too bad we'll never know

I dont disagree he would have had great matches. I just think the topic of this thread was more along the lines of wrestlers who were heading towards being llegendary but got cut short. Eddie is already a legend in many peoples minds, including mine.

i'll throw an interesting one out there:

Kerry Von Erich.

after David's death,they pushed Kerry to the moon in the World Class territories...he had the look.he had the charisma.he even had a reign as NWA World Champion,beating no less than Flair for the Belt...but he also had a severe drug addiction. some say it started before the accident that took his foot,but if not it definitely started afterwards. Kerry wasn't under the influence some of the time - he was impaired ALL of the time, to the point where he disappear right before being introduced ,to in several infamous moments performing wrestling moves on himself while his opponents were in another part of the ring or outside...he couldn't represent the NWA as a true,committed,trustworthy World Champion...

he had the same potential when he debuted in the WWF,to the point were Vince was so high on him and he was so over that he was given the IC Belt and a high profile feud with Mr. Perfect,and was teaming with World Champ the Ultimate Warrior right after he debuted....but,again,drugs would take their toll,and after several disappearances from TV and stints in rehab,the WWF would eventually let him go...and shortly thereafter he would end up taking his own life...

he coulda been one of the greats, a multi-time World Champion in both promotions...but drug addiciton destroyed his career,then his life...

Pillman for sure.I think he would have been a big part of the Attitude era-again IF he stayed after Montreal.

There's tons of names that would have made a splash but the only one that could have really set an impact on wrestling and changed its history is Magnum TA. To me, Magnum stays healthy and the runs/feuds that Sting and Luger both had never happen. Thats two of the biggest names in wrestling right there.
