I remember this promo Vader cut after he lost to Kane at the Survivor Series. What was the story behind this?

I'm not 100% sure but I think this was legit and wasn't meant to go anywhere. From what I heard Russo wasn't a fan of Vader at all and Vader was jobbing out in like 3 minutes on RAW every week around this time.

I was watching Raw from 98 and he was supposed to face the godfather...Godfather gave Vader the usual choice of fighting or taking his three hos for the night...and Vader took the offer! i remember thinking "this is so unlike Vader's character" then he procceeded to get knocked on his ass by bart gunn...i guess russo had a say in thos

this wasnt SSeries 98.
this was after their Mask vs Mask match at IYH:Over The Edge from May 98.Vaders last few feuds/matches from 98 on his way out were awful.he was made to look so weak.

Vader should have never stepped foot in a WWF ring. His legacy in Japan and WCW were perfect. WWF completely ruined him.

This isn't the first time Vader said crapon WWF television.
At Bad Blood 1997 before his tag team flag match Vader say something about Canada being #1 is a bunch of bull crapor something. Good times.
Anyway, I don't remember Vader calling himself a piece of crapor where the angle went from there...

yeah,definitely...used to love him and his monster heel run as World Champion in WCW...
in the WWF he was just wasted...at least if they had given him that WWF Championship reign from SummerSlam to Survivor Series in 1996,or even the 2nd proposed run for Survivor Seris 96 to the Royal Rumble 97,it would've established SOME legitimacy to his WWF run, but,of course, HBK had to get his way...and then Vince soured on him quickly...and that was it...

yep, devastating as i also love the vader character and had remembered him from being younger and watching wcw...and then thinking wtf happened to him?
as soon as he teamed with mankind, although it did work and was entertaining, you knew his wwe run was on the decline.

I think the idea was that WWF wanted him to lose weight and they got him off TV with this deal. there were a few other guys they wanted to get in better shape too, though I'm blanking on who right now. For some reason, I want to say Ron Simmons was also part of that.
Needless to say, he didn't return or lose any weight. He just went to Japan where they loved him no matter what and wrestled a few more years before retiring.

Vader was so awesome, its a shame he was used so poorly in the WWF but you can thank Shawn and the Kliq for it. On one of Cornette's shoots he talks about Shawn not wanting to work with Vader because he was too rough. Vince wanted to change his name to The Mastadon and Cornette stuck up for him.

He was at his heaviest when he debuted in the WWF in '96. By late 97, he had begun to shed pounds. He wasn't exactly skinny, of course, but there was a considerable difference between '96 and '98.

Crazy how his career went downhill when he went to WWF. Don't get me wrong, the guy got a decent heel push but there is no reason he shouldn't have held the title at least once.
Vader was quite athletic for his size as well. Everyone blames it on Shawn, but does anyone else think that it has to do with McMahon taking WCW's stars and burying them?

I bought a 3 disc DVD with Vader in Japan from Highspots and DAMN! he was an absolute beast!
In WWE was definitely wasted. He had a good showing in 1996, and a great match with HBK at Summerslam. In 1997 the Final 4 match with Austin/Taker/Bret/Vader, i thought Vader was the MVP...his eye was busted open pretty bad and still continued and showed dominance.

When Vader debuted, WWF had an awful main event scene, one of the weakest in history. No reason he shouldn't have run through the division. In 1996, I did not buy pretty boy Shawn beating Vader, no chance. Its weird cause Vince loves big guys, he put the title on Yokozuna twice, and Yoko had never drawn anywhere else. Vader was established and was treated like garbage. Vince loved holding back WCW talent.
