Does anyone know what this was about? I read somewhere that apparently there was going to be a reboot of sorts for WCW.  |

that was when bischoff was going to buy wcw from time warner before the wwf had arranged to. never came to fruition, although i'd love if it had.

Yeah the final Nitro was always going to be the final Nitro until The Big Bang actually, i read there was going to be a final ppv where it ended in mayhem and groups of wrestlers destroying the entire set and just running amok...and then it would relaunch 6 months later as they dealt with contracts and marketing. |

Yeah the final Nitro was always going to be the final Nitro until The Big Bang actually, i read there was going to be a final ppv where it ended in mayhem and groups of wrestlers destroying the entire set and just running amok...and then it would relaunch 6 months later as they dealt with contracts and marketing. That would have been awesome. I wish WCW could have stuck around longer, got back on track, and started a second Monday Night War |

It was supposed to be a flat-out reboot of the brand. DDP was on the actual poster.

I have been watching some old Nitros from 2000 and 2001 and it was actually getting pretty good, especially the mid-card and cruiserweight division. They did few things rights like giving Lance Storm a super huge push as soon as debuted in WCW holding three titles at once and renaming them and of course giving Booker T a main event push.
They also started to give the Natural Born Thrillers a pretty good push feuding with DDP and Nash and even got couple of wins over them. Mike Sanders was pretty underrated and decent on the mic too.
I finally received the 2001 Nitro and Thunder seasons from ioffer and watched January so far and was pretty good...forgot how entertaining the Cat was and i liked Road Warrior Animal's role as Flair's bodyguard. It was funny seeing Christopher Daniels on Nitro with hair and botching so many moves. The crowd booed the hell out of him.
Scott Steiner going around and breaking people's leg with a lead pipe was pretty funny. This was after Sid snapped his leg and Steiner started to take credit for it.
Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson were god awful on commentary though.
I always thought near the end it started to pick up.

I had always heard that Joey Styles and Don Callis were going to be the new commentary team for the revamped WCW Monday Nitro.

Its too bad we never saw Bischoff take over because WCW was actually getting good during early 2001. Scott Steiner was entertaining and was bringing credibility back the the World Title by holding for about 5 months. Booker T was enjoyable as well and I loved his serious "fighting champ" gimmick over his goofy "ghetto" character from the WWE. Lance Storm was getting a huge push and no doubt would have eventually won atleast one world title. Jeff Jarrett, DDP, and Nash were actually putting over the younger guys, and the cruiserweights were as entertaining as ever. Goldberg and Sting were also just about to return as well.
Its a shame we never saw what Bischoff was going to do because anything would have been better than what Vince did.

yeah things were repairing themselves slowly but yeah it was a pity.
Steiners long and brutal title reign was good and as mentioned above it was restoring cred to the title.

Second Monday Night War didn't last long man. |

It would have indeed been amazing to see a WcW Relaunch, especially if all that talent had been retained under contract.
Bischoff may not be a genius, but it could honestly not have been worse then what the WWE did with WcW. I'm no fan of Impact anymore, but I think a large part of their issues lies with the perception of them being a "minor league" brand just above a small Indy.
Sting, Goldberg, Nash, Hall, Flair, Hogan, Steiner, Buff, Booker and the others could have given the WWE a run for the money with some proper direction.
