What a drastic drop in weight between his heel run and his babyface turn. When did it become noticable?

Around 1990 during his feud with Akeem I would say. By SummerSlam 90 he really lost a lot of weight. Then in 91 and 92 he looked very small and could move a lot faster.

i believe Akeem was let go due to a weight problem so wonder if that acted as an incentive for the Bossman to shed some pounds!

I did notice Bossman slimming down over time. I remember he was HUGE in his match against Koko B. Ware at SummerSlam!

Yeah he even lost more when he returned around 1998 Survivor Series time. He was much better without all the extra weight.

He was always athletic but he was exceptionally agile when he got to a more normal weight. Still, I always felt sorry for him having to wrestle in a dress shirt. Those things aren't exactly made for performance.

Yeah I myself don't believe he was ever told to lose weight or lose your job. I think it was a personal decision myself as he was heavy for quite a few years before. Man when he shed that weight he was really quick. Damn shame he's gone though

I can answer the question about his weight loss in 1990. Bossman did a interview saying that he injured his knee during his feud with Dusty Rhodes in '89 and he didn't want to take alot of time off to have it operated on because he said you would lose your position if you took alot of time off back then, so he dropped the weight to help his knee. It caught up with him a decade later though as he finally had to have the knee operation in Sept. 2000. The weight loss really prolonged his career and kept him up at or near the top for most of his career!
