the two variants that i would most like to own are the Bearded Cpl and the painted chesthair George. I have yet to see a painted chesthair George on ebay though (other than custom).

I'm not an expert at all on variants but looking at that pic it looks like someone tried to colour over the red strip with a marker or its faded. I think if it was painted brown, it would appear more dark and more of a "brown" colour and not faded red.

Well the figure itself has very little wear so i doubt its faded. and in person, the brown is more bold, no red shows through at all.

I've heard about this one before. LJN seems to have had some trouble communicating what they wanted with the paint on Steele. There was the chest hair debacle, and apparently they couldn't get the stripe right at first, either. I guess they originally only painted the stripe on the leg of the tights, not the tunks over them. Anyway, the red that was painted over the black on the Steele figures was eventually done in two paint applications, since the red didn't show up bright enough with just one app (see the comparison figure in your pic. You can see the "ghost" if the first paint app under the second on the stripe). Those figures make up most of the run. The "brown stripe" is just the red painted with one application and not two. |

As many of you Know on this board I'm also a LJN collector. I have the exact same VARIANT! I can guarente this is also not a custom, not painted! Strip is exactly the Same it doesn't go all the way up!
I will Post PICS this weekend when I go to my parents
What do you think this is Worth?

As a "Collector" I always like to know what My collection is "Worth". That doesn't mean I'm going to be a Seller or a Scalper on Ebay buddy. I have My Hockey Collection & Wrestling Colllection insured for a "Pretty Penny" on my house insurance. I have to pay a premuim for this insured price. That way if theft or fire happens, I'm Covered. OK, that's nice, wonder how they estimate the value... As we all know, priceguides mean swat. Alright then, back on topic: since the brown one is nothing more than an error, it's value shouldn't be higher than $10. |
