Didn't they only film the 2nd additional scene a few weeks ago? So they had no time to put it into the earlier UK release.

That was probably the best action movie I have ever seen. Nolan has his work cut out for him.

Best Superhero movie. Ever.
And I paid to see Dark Knight 9 times in theaters...good luck Nolan, Ledger wont be saving your movie this time around.

The movie was very good, but it's a bit premature I think to proclaim it the best action movie ever or even the best superhero movie. Two shortcomings I felt the film had were that he character of Black Widow was useless and could have (and maybe should have) been cut, and I felt the last 45 or so started to drag a tiny bit, bit not too much. Great movie nonetheless however, but it was still no Dark Knight. Dark Knight stands alone and transcends being simply a super hero movie, it really is one of the best films of all time.

I along with many others came out of Dark Knight proclaiming it the best after the first viewing?... And it WAS the best -- until tonight. The Avengers surpassed it on nearly every level. Black Widow was about as useless as Rachel Dawes was. She brought them together, she gave humanity to a group of "freaks". No character in that movie was useless. I honestly feel like with that statement, you're grasping at straws. Dark Knight fell tonight, and I defended it as the best there could EVER be. But this was better.

I personally liked Avengers more than Dark Knight. I still think Nolan has some big tricks up his sleeve for his final showing but damn did Avengers deliver. Black Widow needs her own movie, that is all there is to it. But I think Avengers was on point with everything and the final action scene was just above and beyond what a summer blockbuster is all about.

(Non-spoilers) Jesus; words cant sum up how incredible this movie was.
Each character got a great amount of screen-time and focus, with room to spare for minor characters. Nobody felt like they were glazed over. We were in no-way left unsatisfied with action - the build wasn't for a 10 minute fight, no, you got a hell of a lot of battle. Same goes for the comic-relief. It was fresh, not overdone one bit, and yet it all plays a role in the story so not to distract.
Very surprised that IronMan didn't steal the show. He was in full-on Tony Stark Ego Mode.. so that says a lot about the other actors bringing their A-game to make sure there was not a dull moment.
I've never seen the same movie in theaters twice, but should I get the chance to go to Imax I'll definitely be watching this again.
And to put my 2-cents in on where this Ranks... it beats Dark Knight, that's for damn sure. This movie embodied what comic-book super heroes should be, straightforward. I've never cracked open a comic book, but I'd imagine things like Avengers before I imagine what happened in Dark Knight. Not to take away, Dark Knights a great Movie.. but its definitely more of a "movie" than a "comic-book movie".. if that makes sense. Dark Knight will always get praise because it was the best of its kind for a while, but Avengers was just a roller-coaster of excitement that is just unparalleled. Dark Knight might be 'The Godfather', but The Avengers is 'Scarface'.

Avengers was the best comic book movie.
Dark Knight as the best graphic novel movie.

Avengers was the best comic book movie. Dark Knight as the best graphic novel movie. A graphic novel is just a collection of comic books. I hate when people try and hide behind that damn terminology. Those "graphic novels" that everyone went out, bought, and professed their undying love for after The Dark Knight came out still hit the stands as individual issues first.

Those "graphic novels" that everyone went out, bought, and professed their undying love for after The Dark Knight came out still hit the stands as individual issues first. Actually that is incorrect. Although people often refer to them as graphic novels, a collection of comic book stories in one book is called a trade paper back or TPB. An actual graphic novel is an entire story written for the sole purpose of being told in one shot. Best Superhero movie. Ever. And I paid to see Dark Knight 9 times in theaters... good luck Nolan, Ledger wont be saving your movie this time around. No, but an amazing story, great cast and awesome fight scenes should do the trick. I'd really like to know why people are constantly comparing this movie with TDKR. Why is no one saying anything about The Amazing Spider-Man or any other comic book movie that's coming out? Why is it just Nolan's Batman? The comparisons are ridiculous and are just getting redundant now. Give it a rest already and keep your stupid comparisons to yourself. I myself am looking forward to both movies and being a true comic book fan, I will most likely enjoy both equally so I'm not really interested in comparing the two. I'm certain both will be exceptionally great movies.

An actual graphic novel is an entire story written for the sole purpose of being told in one shot. I think you know as well as I do that I know my comic books. Trade paper back also refers to the mass market release of novels as well (the ones without pictures). You and I also both know that a million schmucks run around buying "graphic novels" such as The Long Halloween, Watchmen, etc., and call them as such to avoid the stigma attached to reading comics. But yeah, I'll give you that technicality - Azzarello and Bermejo's "Joker" was a graphic novel (which is still just a drawn out, done in one comic book with a fancy title). The books upon which TDK was based...sorry kids, those are comic books. And hype is the reason people are comparing them. You can call it apples to oranges all day, but there is no denying that The Avengers is Marvel's cinematic flagship, very much in the same way that Nolan's Batman trilogy is DC's.

Holy shit.
I cannot express with words just how amazed I was at this movie. Joss Whedon is a fantastic writer/ director... he managed to balance every character perfectly, without one overshadowing the others. Amazing dialogue, amazing character interactions, phenomenal action!
10/10
Can't wait to see it again!

Nolan is a GREAT filmmaker, that can't be denied. But as someone else said, it's apples to oranges. They are going to draw comparisons though because someone asks "What's the greatest comic book movie of all time?" and until now, for 4 years, the answer would RESOUNDINGLY be "The Dark Knight"...Well, that answer wont be the same for a lot of people from now on. Which is my point with Dark Knight Rises...I wasn't even expecting it to be as good as Dark Knight, which is fine, Ledger's performance is one of the best in cinematic history, but I expected it to go TDK, TDKR, Avengers...so far it's Avengers, TDK...where TDKR will end on that list? I don't know, but I'm excited to see it. I just think it's not as "In the bag" as most of us Bat-fans expected just 6 months ago...

Its strange comparing Avengers to Dark Knight, they feel like 2 completely different movies and both are the best in the movie type but as far as comic book movies go its a toss up and depends how I feel that day.
For me its like choosing between Spiderman or Batman, it just comes down to what I fancy that day, a bit of comedy with fast paced action or a detective thriller with a bit of gore? and something that will make me think a little more.
Avengers was still awesome though and massive props the the director and everyone who wrote or had an idea for it.

Ones an Action comedy
Ones an Action drama
They will be the best at what they are. As much as I love an amazing story I really can say I feel Avengers is the best super hero movie I have seen and Batman is my fav super hero and I love Nolan's films so yeah. Avengers surprised the hell out of me. I think some people are stubborn and don't want to admit something may actually be better than Dark Knight.
I hope Avengers continues to kill it and it dethrones that stupid Avatar movie.
