Anyone participate in Go Fest? I didn’t, but I had a decent shiny haul today. The luck of the Alolan was with me apparently, I got shinies for Alolan Marowak, Grimer, and Exeggutor. Only thing I’m jealous of that was a Go Fest perk was all the Unown, and shiny Unown. For the make up day today niantic forgot to make unown shiny for Australia lol Managed to get Chansey, Chinchou, Alolan Marowak and Woobat shinies from the makeup. Got them all the first time around but always nice to have extras.

I might start a new game in Gold Version if I can muster up the attention span. Finally got around to digging out my gameboy and copy of gold version from my closet but I can't find the charger. I think I may have accidentally thrown it away the last time I cleaned out my closet. I ordered a new one and plan on starting a new game once it comes, lol. Edit: I wound up having enough of a charge on the gameboy to start playing. I made it to the first gym and my starter Pokémon is Cyndaquil. He’s under leveled though so I need to grind more before actually starting the first gym battles.

^ That sucks. You can find a charger for cheap on Amazon most likely.

I finally got my charger so I was able to play Gold for a few hours last night.
My Cyndaquil evolved into a Quilava and I got the first few badges in the game. The last thing I did was use the spray bottle on sudowoodo. I caught him but I can’t see myself using him on my team. Aside from him, all I have is Quilava, togepi and a paras that I’m just using as an HM slave.

I’m trying to get all the Johto Pokemon for the Game Boy Icons dex for my Pokemon bank (I’m playing on the 3DS Virtual Console) for no reason but it’s fun to complete the dex. My team so far is: Typhlosion Pidgeot Ampharos Espeon Lapras Just finished beating chuck and now heading back across the sea while hunting for a Mantine. Last team member will be Dratini. I’m making a stop back in Goldenrod to get one from the Game Corner as I now have the funds haha.

This game is based around the last generation I kept up with but there's a lot I don't remember.

You need a strong Water and Electric type, the best two in my opinion in this team are Lapras and Ampharos. You get Mareep on the route underneath Violet City. It’ll be full evolved by Level 30 and will really do a solid job for the team, Lapras can be found at Union Cave on Fridays only (just change the in game day for it, google is your friend). You’ll need a flying type, but honestly apart from Noctowl and Pidgeot, the only good option is Crobat. Crobat is insanely good, and since you’ve just past Sudowoodo you can get a higher level Zubat at Mt Mortar which will really help you in Mortys Gym since it knows the move Bite, I’d recommend levelling it up till it’s a Golbat before you take him on though. Golbat evolves through happiness so just make sure it doesn’t faint and you’ll get there quicker.

I just got Eevee and might evolve him into a Vaporeon eventually. Do you think togepi is worth leveling up/using on my team?

Gold and Silver introduced this idiotic call feature where a specific train might call you to tell you they found a stone for you. It's BS! It's easy in Crystal because you can manipulate the call by changing Daylight savings time at your house and they'll call to tell you they found it for you. Doesn't work like that in Gold and Silver. As for Togepi/Togetic, it needed another evolution. Togetic on its own isn't very good. I would say to you that pick what you like but definitely look at the dex online and see how you're team works. GSC aren't hard games, but if you're going all the way to beat Red at Mt Silver then you need some high level mons and a really well balanced team.

Crobat not getting Sludge Bomb (or any Poison offensive move) is such bullsh*t and I have no idea why they though that would be cute to do...... I'm going to be starting over on Digital Crystal soon after beating Digital Gold (team was: Meganium, Alakazam, Quagsire, Machamp, Granbull, and Magmar) but so far only know two to three of my for sure team members. I bred a Murkrow with another Murkrow so that my Level 5 Murkrow popped out already knowing the best Dark move it can learn this gen: Faint Attack right off the bat! I don't have time to wait and I don't with Pursuit and Thief.. I think I want to use Misdreavus since I don't recall ever using one in it's original generation. I need to go catch two at Mt. Silver and breed. But damn hatching eggs in these generations is a damn pain. I need my Flame Body Talonflame! The third likely team member is Sudowoodo so at least he gets some love in this thread! I usually dislike slow Pokemon but he's another I don't recall ever using. He actually gets good moves too. One of the only ones to get Rock Slide which is some BS for the many others who were snubbed.

I lucked out big time at the Cianwood City Gym. Chuck kept spamming surf with his Poliwrath on my Typhlosion, so I had to keep using super potions every turn until eventually I ran out. It got down to the point where I only had my level 6 HM slave Paras left to use. For some reason, Poliwrath kept spamming hypnosis and it wasn't effecting Paras. So I was able to spam cut until I finished off whatever remaining HP he had.
It had to be the biggest upset I've ever played through on a pokemon game.

On one of my GSC playthroughs I accidentally tripped my Rival battle going out of Azalea. Completely unprepared. His Bayleef had ravaged my team except for my hatched Togepi. On its last legs it pulled out a Crit Flamethrower using Metronome and won the battle.

I finally caught a shiny Tauros in Pokemon Go.
Not great CP/IV wise but I'll take it.

Do you guys think gyarados is worth using on my team in gold? I caught the red one at lake of rage. I’m still going to get lapras and probably evolve my Eevee into a Vaporeon so I feel like that would be too many water types.

Unless you are doing a mono Water type team I'd highly recommend not using three full/part Pokemon of any one specific type.
All three of those Waters are great but I think Lapras would be the best choice overall. It gets STAB on Ice Beam which is rare in this generation since they don't have Ice Beam as a TM (just Crystal move tutor move for 4,000 coins which is some BS since you can't clone spam it on people!).
Vaporeon would be second imo since in Gen 2 all Water moves go off of Special Attack and Vaporeon has much higher Special Attack (110 vs 60 *high Special Attack is also good for using Bite and Aurora Beam or whatever Ice move you get*).

BTW Geodude since it didn't want to be shiny for me during its Spotlight Hour! Yes I am petty and I hold grudges (ask Clefairy she knows)...
