Was just watching the botchamania and it had a brawl for all ending.
And I was just wondering, was it legit boxing or was it all fake and pre planned like wrestling

It was proper boxing apparently mate. They hoped Dr Death would win it to build him up but instead he got beat pretty easily and never got his push

Bart Gunn RAPED Steve Williams of his push and credibility as a legit toughman.
Then Butterbean killed Bart the next year at WrestleMania XV.
Also, Dan Severn was banned from competing in it for some reason, something to do with the UFC I think.

Dan Severn was in the tournament. He beat Mero in the 1st round and dropped out.

It was stupid but Hardcore Holly said on his shoot it was legit. Butterbean killed Bart Gunn.

I really enjoyed the brawl for all because it was legit and different from anything the WWE had tried previously but the whole thing kind of ended up a disaster with guys getting injured and a jobber Bart Gunn winning the whole thing then making the whole thing look bad by losing in about 10 seconds to Butterbean at Wrestlemania

While it did make Bart Gunn a big star in Japan it didn't serve it's purpose in the the WWF, Jim Corrente has a pretty good rant about it.

Clearly the WWE had a storyline set up for Steve Williams to win the whole thing & then be pushed to the moon as a legit shooter. Problem with reality it that you can't quite plan these things. Bart Gunn looked awesome coming out of the Tournament destroying Williams & KOing JBL in the finals. Should have just given Gunn the push expected for Williams & set him up as a legit shoter. Not saying it would have worked but would have been the best option to get something out of the mess they ended up with. Instead they did nothing with Gunn for months. Then gave him Butterbean expecting Gunn to beat him & well we know how that all ended up! |
