What you loved about WCW?

This is of course, if you were a fan haha.

For me during the mid-later 90's when I was a fan I loved the cruiserweight action they had on the undercard and some of the masked wrestlers they had such as Psicosis, Rey, Juventud and Liger. The first chance many fans had to see these guys do their thing.

I also thought their midcard was brilliant with wrestlers such as Guerrero, Benoit, Jericho and Booker T. Sadly all of whom except Booker seemed to stay at midcard for one reason or another...

And finally for me, they had Sting, who is no doubt about it a legend.

So how about you guys? We all know how much of a calamity WCW was, but what were the things you loved about it? Or things that kept you watching until the end?

I discoverd WCW one night when I was a kid. I had no clue there was even another wrestling company around besides the WWF. It was around the time Sting came back with the crow gimmick and was scaring the crap out of Hogan. I was hooked since then.

I loved a lot of stuff about it.

It was just damn good stuff.

Short blond Sting, Ric Flair, Lex Luger as WCW Champion, Barry Windham, The Enforcers, Dangerous Alliance, Steiner Brothers, Doom, Miracle Violence Connection etc etc etc....

I have to say, even though its seen as silly and/or piss poor booked, WCW from 1990-1993 had some of the best wrestling matches ever.

I didn't start watching wrestling until around the 2002 Royal Rumble. So, I wasnt around for WCW. I did get my hands on a bunch of WCW VHS tapes when I first got into wrestling, and I can honestly say I loved the product. Hogan, Nash, Flair, Goldberg, Hart, Sting, and Savage were some of my favorites. Most of the tapes I saw were of the later years of the company, such as 1999 and 1998. But, I've watched a lot of matches and I can say that the reason I enjoyed it was the star power, the atmosphere, and the wrestling.

I used to tape Nitro and Raw every Friday night from 96-99 when I was 16-19.used to watch them back to back every saturday morning.

when I started watching Nitro the whole watching ex WWF stars,as well as Sting and such was the draw for me but I soon got sucked in by

Cruiserweight action
great tag team action. Harlem Heat,Public Enemy,Steiners etc etc interacting was great.

and of course the nWo.after seeing razor Ramon turn into a jobber and then see him dissapear I figured he had left but man was I stunned when he turned up in that early "invaders from WWF role".

the whole war intrigued me because Vince previously never mentioned anyone else.

WCW was more wrestling based than storyline based in it's early years (88-94) which made me love it so much. But I gotta admit after watching the Nitro set, I actually miss the 96-01 era as well even if 00-01 was pretty unwatchable.

the entire show. i loved every moment of it, and had favorites for all the weight classes. the filthy animals, even kronik, benoit, hated jericho (was a great heel), loved raven, thought goldberg was lame, nwo was badass but confusing, thunder job matches.

i was a massive slapnuts fan too. always wanted double j to return to the wwe and headline.

I didn't ever see it until maybe 97 or 98, but looking back they had a really good variety of talent from the luchadores to the big guys. DDP was my favorite part of wcw though

Well I never was around for WCW since I was a little toddler at the time in the late 90's. However I have looked at so much WCW its not even funny. I loved a lot of things about it. Like they said in the Rise and Fall of WCW, there was something for everybody. I just happened to love the nWo, Goldberg, Cruiserweights, Nitro Girls, and just about everything. Many people hated WCW 2000-2001 and I will admit that they were pretty bad at the time but it was because they lost interest because of repeated storylines and Vince Russo's creative ideas. They didn't realize Russo and Vince McMahon were the team that worked and WCW only had half of the team. 1996-1998 were the best years for reasons that don't really have to be explained. The New World Order storyline should have ended at Starrcade 1997 but the WCW thought the fans couldn't get enough of it and it eventually became like the New Nexus has, stale. The end killed my interest and I will always remember the great days at the top WCW had.

Some great posts guys. There was a feel about WCW for some reason, they had some incredible talent. At times some of the stuff that went on was ludicrous but between 1996-1998, there was some brilliant stuff. Still love going back and watching it, just wish it was more readily available!

Hopefully if this new Nitro set is successful we'll see a volume 2, I wouldn't mind a Thunder best of as well.

i was always a WWF -4 -Life guy ,but i started getting WCW here around late 1990-early 1991.... i remember watching WCW Saturday Night.... i remember watching the Clash of Champions.... i remember watching the highlights of Lex Luger beating Barry Windham for the WCW World Title,which was just Luger's US Belt with a square gold plate that said WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT WRESTLING CHAMPION screwed on the front since Flair left with the real belt...

i really became a fan in summer of 1992,when Vader became Champion....watched Saturday Night every week from there really up to about 1999-2000 or so...

it just had a different feel to it than WWF....felt less polished,but that also made it feel more "real"....

of course,then we had the Nitro years,the nWo, Cruiserweights,etc....

during that time , i loved it for the unpredictability of live TV,watching to see who would jump from the WWF or ECW to WCW that week....and they also had some of the best matches and compelling angles during that time too...

I was more into wwf when i was growing up, but now that wwe are releasing best of wcw dvds, im buying them, anything tht they attach the wcw name to, i will probably buy

WCW was amazing. My passion and love for Wrestling has a huge moment here, WCW in the 90's will always be my favorite period of wrestling.

1, The Main event, Undercard and mid card were all amazing there was nothing lacking when WCW was at its peak and every style of wrestling was represented, They had the best lucha libre style wrestlers, the best cruiserweight mat technician style wrestlers, the best tag teams etc.
2, Basically nearly all of my favourite wrestlers I grew up watching were on it especially during the late 90's.
3, The unpredictability of the show not knowing who was going to show up next on nitro like when Luger and Rude showed up.
4, Cool angles like the NWO storylines have been copied but never came close to reprising the orginal NWO.
