In 1996 did WCW have like Over the top rope rule? Cause in some matches ive been watching on Nitro it seems teh wrestler distracts the ref and throws the other guy over the top.
Or in another match some one got DQed for being thrown over.

I believe Bill Watts instituted the "no moves from the top rope" rule. But at one point in time, it used to be illegal in both WCW and WWF to throw someone over the top rope...in a normal match at least..
But that rule has been long gone...

WCW had the rule from days in the NWA in the 80s, at least.
In fact, in '92/'93 when they did the NWA Title Matches, they made the point of pointing out that the rule was not valid in those matches, as NWA rescinded the rule after the original split from WCW.

I'm glad that rule is gone because I hated it. Such a lousy way to end a match if the referee caught a wrestler tossing his opponent over the ropes.

I always liked it because it was something that seperated the two companies. It helped shape identity, especially in the days when it was hard to be a WCW fan from all of Hogan's buddies that they kept bringing in.

I remember one time in the early 90's there was a match and a guy did a clothesline and the other guy was supposed to fall through the ropes but instead accidently went over the top. Everyone was really confused in the ring. The ref. the wrestler in the ring and the guy outside the ring looked sad and dissapointed.
Does anyone remember this match.
