I was thinking, If Shawn Michaels would have faced Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 13 who do you think Austin would have faced? And how different would the card have been?
I was thinking Austin would have faced Undertaker because besides Bret Hart, he had the issue with Taker from illegally dumping him out of the Rumble and the costing him the Final Four match.
I also wondered why Bulldog and Owen didn't face off at Mania for the European Championship. I know they were tag champs at the time but they were in a storyline having serious issues and were thrown into a worthless Tag Title match vs. Vader & Mankind who were also having problems.
While I'm glad we got that epic Bret v. Austin Submission match, If the HBK v. Bret match has happened here's the WM card I would have liked to see.
Shawn Michaels v. Bret Hart - WWF Title British Bulldog v. Owen Hart - Europen Title Rocky Maivia v. Flash Funk - Intercontinental Title The Undertaker v. Stone Cold Steve Austin Mankind v. Vader v. Sid Goldust v. Triple H Ahmed Johnson & LOD v. The Nation 4 Corners Tag Team Match

Awesome card actually, I'd make Mankind-Vader-Sid a #1 contender's match too.

You could let most of the card slide, the main problem you have is Taker vs Austin....You either kill Austins push (losing to Taker wouldnt have been the same as losing to Bret) or you end the streak.

I don't think the streak was a big deal at that point though, was it? I think at that point he was only like 5-0 and I don't remember them mentioning the undefeated deal until many years afterward.

I think you're right. Legend has it that the streak didn't become a truly big deal until recent years, because nobody was paying enough attention to Mania wins-losses to realize Undertaker had a unique thing happening. When it got truly lengthy, people started noticing and it blossomed into an opportunity for an ongoing storyline. Anyway, for Austin's WM13 opponent, the only choice that could have matched or surpassed Bret Hart would have been Brian Pillman, in my opinion. He was with the company then, but his injury status was still too tentative to book him into a one-on-one angle.

I think early plans called for Pillman vs Austin.its a pity Pillmans foot was so ed up during this period......then when they did fix it it was practically a botch job. they sealed his ankle in the walking position-greatly reducing his range of abilities.

I'm actually sure that if Taker hadn't been injured during WM15 he would have been in the Fatal 4-Way match and Trips still would have won, ending the streak. So yeah, the streak wasn't even really mentioned until he was like 10-0.

My point was though that you would have ended what would become one of the more bigger storylines in history before it ever started. I know WWE didnt make a deal about it till later on but plenty of fans knew. Just like Tito Santana's 1-7 record at mania...poor guy
