What was Savage's problem with the Royal Rumble matches?
I was watching some of the early RR pay-per-views and thinking Savage would be awesome...he was quite horrible.
In 1992 he eliminated himself, but no refs were ever sent into the ring to tell him he was out. This bugged me because he then stayed in the ring for a decent amount of time, before officially being eliminated.
Then, in '93, he had just elbow dropped Yokozuna and was making a nice comeback in the match....and then he decides to go for the pin??? It's not like it was his first Rumble.
Anyone know the logic or reasoning behind this "macho" madness? Was it planned? Or were these happenings just botches?

Dont forget he noshowed in 91 because of Warrior. I agree with the 93 part but in 1992 I fully understood the "reasoning" behind having to be THROWN over instead of jumping over. They used that rule for a few more years until Mil Mascaras did a moonsault and eliminated himself. I was like "WTF, He didnt get thrown over"

Right, I totally forgot he was the missing entrant in '91.
I feel like the RR rules slightly changed every year. I always thought you could always go through the ropes, but if you ever went over the top and both feet hit the ground you were out -- no questions.
Hah Mil Mascaras in the RR. There were so many random Rumble participants that year.

I could see what they were doing with all the luchadors since they were in San Antonio, but they picked a lot of rudos(heels) so it didn't pan well. I think the both cases with macho man were planned spots, the one in 91 to show that you had to be thrown out to be eliminated (despite Andre doing something similar). The one with Yoko I think was done just for the spot, showing yoko's power in throwing macho over the top

To be fair, He was suffering from a severe case of Macho Madness! Dig it?

Seems Savage was always feuding with someone that took away attention to his being part of the Royal Rumble Dusty, Jake, Warrior all attention were paid to those feuds at the Rumble for Savage

To be fair, He was suffering from a severe case of Macho Madness! Dig it? Freak out freak out! But the reason they made that rule with him in 92 was because he was supposed to be in the last four. The rule was never used before or since... Even earlier in that match, Bossman went over under his own momentum, even if he didn't do it intentionally.

Savage's elimination in the 1992 Rumble is just dumb. I cannot stand how he goes for the pin when he knows full well there are no pins accepted in the rumble bout.

The finish where he pins Yokozuna is still, to this day, the worst Rumble finish.
