I was just wondering what the actual purpose of bringing The Undertaker back in 2000 under the biker gimmick rather than the deadman.
Was Vince trying to make the character more real and trying to get rid of the novelty as part of the Attitude era or is there another reason?

Exactly the reason you said.

Was Vince trying to make the character more real and trying to get rid of the novelty as part of the Attitude era or is there another reason? IMO....Both... I think at one end Vince saw how all the "Real" wrestlers where doing and wanted to add some realism to the Taker lore. I also think is was just another way for Taker to get what he wanted and for it to be more himself.....ABA Hell taker is better IMO than any Deadman Heel and I think he could only accomplish that as a more real character cause we needed to see him just destroy people while at the same time when its time to go face have Brock break his hand and make is revenge even more sweet.

I think Vince and Taker both wanted the change. ABA Taker just fit with the times, and it worked (in my opinion) as a character. I loved it. Much more so than I do the Deadman gimmick.
I also think Taker had a lot of fun with it, and was happy for the change. Just my 2 cents.

I remember reading something like his knees were hurt, so going in a bike instead of walking was a lot better for him, and you know, a deadman on a bike wasn't something that good, I mean, funny at first, but stupid if you look at it, so I think that is one of the reasons.

i think if they merged the 2 it could be pretty cool, for instance keep the deadman gimmick but get a company like OCC to build taker a sick chopper (skulls, crosses, flames etc) on it to ride down to the ring on..ya know somethin real demonic looking

the undertaker character has always changed fittingly with the eras the wwf has cycled through, this case is no different.

Taker himself somewhere(I know its on video) said he wanted to cjange and he felt the time was right for a change. The business was changing, the fans were changing and he had to change in order to keep with the the times

The main reason is Taker hates the deadman gimmick. He's said it's cheesy now days and would much rather be more of himself then be a "zombie" basically. I wish he would go back I usually ignore trolls-especially in here but this is complete nonsense Mark Callaway does NOT hate the Deadman gimmick.

Well this new gimmick he has these days is a nice combination of the two.
I'm really going to enjoy "The Last Outlaw".

If you look, 'Taker is always changing, even subtly to stay fresh and stay with the times. Had his debut, then went darker, more occult, then did the Biker thing, then went back to the Deadman, while retaining some bits of his biker gimmick, fighting style and gear wise. Now he's doing "The Last Outlaw", retaining the Deadman stuff, but making it more realistic.

Like you said the deadman who followed the urn didn't fit with the attitude era.
