I attended the Baltimore Celebrity Fest show in Elkridge, MD. I got the Superticket and a few assorted guest autographs. The superticket was $125 and you got a photo with the wrestler, a special large photo featuring the superticket guests and an extra item. The promoter only had Terry Funk photos. You had to buy photos from either the wrestler or a vendor. Only Funk, Mahoney, Axl and Meanie on the superticket had items for sale from what I remember. Some stars had no items at their table for sale.
All the guests were as nice as can be, a few stand out though and I'll mention them later. All shook my hand and were very friendly. I met Terry Funk, Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten, Chastity, Danny Doring, Nunzio, Raven, Joel Gertner, Mikey Whipwreck, Blue Meanie and Justin Credible on the superticket and Shane Douglas, Sunny, Kimona, Manny Fernandez, Nikolai Volkoff and Luke Gallows. Again, all were very nice and took an interest in the fans. All were very appreciative of the fans. You could really tell.
There were a few stand outs though. They were Balls Mahoney, Shane Douglas and Chastity. I talked with Balls Mahoney and Chastity at length about my passion of helping the homeless. We had great discussions about that, homelessness in their area and their current ventures. Those two were worth the superticket alone!
Shane Douglas. WOW! His warmth towards me was tremendous. We had a passionate conversation about the two members of the Triple Threat, Bam Bam and Chris Candido, who have passed away. After I got my autographs and photo from him and told him I'd be back later to see how he was doing before I left. He told me to stop on by and I did as I was leaving. What impressed me most though is when I was seeing Sunny (sitting next to him) and Shane was getting up to walk down the isle between tables and as I was in the isle way he said "excuse me, Jason." To me, his politness and for him to remember and call me by name long after I first saw him and told him my name just speaks a lot about his interest in the fans. When I returned to greet him a while later on my way out of the show he again thanked me by name. That will stick with me.
I was wearing a Jimmy Valiant t-shirt at the show and several wrestlers pointed it out to me that they liked it and I thought that was cool. You could hear the respect in the wrestlers voices for Jimmy. I owe a very special thanks to Jimmy and his wife Angel. On a recent trip to North Carolina I was going through Virginia so I wondered if it would be possible to go see Jimmy in Shawsville, VA. From the first moment I made contact with them to letting them know I arrived safely home from the trip Jimmy and Angel showed why so many people have good things to say about them. I showed the wrestlers pictures I took at Jimmy's museum memorabilia and wrestling camp. He "welcomed me to his world" as he would put it and his kindness he showed to me and my grandfather on my trip will never be forgotten.
