I've noticed that Hulk Hogan around 93/94 (about the time he left for WCW) looks much different than how he looked in the years immediate prior. Compare: vs. I can't put my finger on what exactly accounts for the change in appearance. Perhaps: - He lost weight? - Hair was thinner? - Mustache was thinner? - Aged significantly? If anyone can shed some insight, I'm all ears.

Looks like in later years, he's got longer hair, his mustache is thinner, his eyebrows are darker and I think the most important part, he's not on roids as consistent. Hogan was and still and probably always will be huge but look at the arms and chest. In his earlier days they looked absolutely swollen. Later on, while still freakishly big they didnt look as bulky.

Think he went down to about 275lb from his bog standad 303lbs, 2 stone is alot of weight to drop. 1993 - 96 I think he took a semi steroid break as when the nWo started was still quite lean, but towards the end of the nWo he looked like Hulk of old, including his 2002 WWF returned, just looked older.

Well let me tell ya what ya didn't put your finger on brother. He went from using the old steroid needle and Big John Studd Vitamans brother to using Testosterone Boosters and Hulk Hogan Vitamins!!
But really, I assume he just laid off the juice.

Hogan admitted in a court of law (93-94, whenever McMahon was in legal heat) to taking steroids for years. Change was bound to happen but for it to seem so drastic...its just weird. I always look at that pic that you posted and compare it to his early WCW run and just shake my head.
As someone also mentioned, he remained smaller in build until he became that supper heel "Hollywood Hogan" in 98. If you look at a pic of him in 98, you'll see that he was right back to being built like a tank. I always wondered if he went back to taking roids around that time or not. I can't recall him ever admitting that. But, the fact is he has maintained a decent build since so who knows.

Thiner 'stach and longer hair doesn't account for the drastic change in his face. The dark eyebrows are the strangest one for me, did he like dye his eyebrows in the 80's or something? His face in the 93 pic looks less bloated though and that might be it.

Maybe it's just me but he looks younger in the second picture.

Maybe it's just me but he looks younger in the second picture. I can see what your saying. I can see that too-losing some weight can make you look younger though because your face tightens up a bit(at least with some folks) I will admit I never noticed this before-but yeah good point man

Maybe it's just me but he looks younger in the second picture. I agree with this. Also, is Hogan blonde, or he died his hair and all? Watching his eyebrows in the second pic, made me remember that he had a darker beard, didn't he?

Just off the roids. Look how swollen his face is in the first pic vs. the second.

roids have a huge effect on your overall appearance so thats the biggest reason.

If anyone can shed some insight, I'm all ears. Hogan was still doing movies and TV shows back then. He also sustained some kind of injury (Hulk claims it was boating accident, Macho Man claims he beat Hulk up) just before WM9, as is evidenced by Hulk's swollen eye and head bandages. I think Hulk was actually trying to trim down for more acting roles and his accident (or fight) hastened the process. I think in '93, he was much lighter than 275, perhaps by 25 lbs or so. Eventually, he bulked back up in WCW when wrestling became his sole focus again. I remember seeing him up close in '02 and he looked much like he did in the late '80's and early 90s, plus a few wrinkles.

Yeah, he got off steroids so he looks thinner in the 2nd pic.
The same thing has happened with others most noticeably imo - Randy Orton. Look at him in 2006/2007 and then compare it to 2009/2010. His face is much thinner due to him not being on steroids anymore.

Yeah, he got off steroids so he looks thinner in the 2nd pic.. According to Hogan, he never used 'roids after 1987. That top pic was taken in '91 or '92. If you take Hogan at his word, his appearance change prior to coming to WCW was more about lifestyle changes and trauma than steroid cessation. Either way, he looked much better in '94 than '93. At WM 9, he looked like crap. He looked to be around 250 lbs and his face had been brutalized. cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/171/902/wrestlemania9b_display_image.jpg?1268108084[/img]
