WCW Galoob History Part 1: Sting

*****Hi again, this post is to coincide with my WCW Galoob Poll. If I do more posts with more pics, it will be like this one.*****



1990 saw the release of the 1st Series of US Released WCW Galoob figures. Sting was part of this first assortment. The figure had several noticeable paint and packaging variations as will be shown below.


(Release #1-Test Market Piece)

This Sting had blue tights, black boots and pink & black face paint. It was released on a card that had the words "Presents the Superstars of the NWA" in the bottom right corner. (There were 6 figures that had this test market package. Flair, Arn, Luger, Rick and Scott Steiner were the others).

The J hook on this package will be referred to as "J Hook A". The plastic hang tab on back will also be referred to as "Hang Tab A".
















(Release #2)

This Sting package had the words "Presents The Superstars of the WCW" on front. It had "J Hook A" and "Hang Tab A". This was the mainstream release. The cardback was the same as Release #1.












(Release #3)

This Sting package had the words "Presents The Superstars of the WCW", but the J Hook and Hang Tab were new. I shall refer to them as "J Hook B" and "Hang Tab B".













(Release #4)

This Sting package had the words "Presents The Superstars of the WCW". It also had "J Hook B" and "Hang Tab B". This was a newly repainted figure, as Sting came with black tights, yellow boots and pink & black face paint. The cardback was the same that (Release #4) had.

is Sting in black trunks worth more or harder to find than in blue trunks?

Great work as usual I had the Orange Sting and the entrance gear Sting both of whom who had a long running feud with the Ultimate Warrior when i was a kid lol.

The black tights Sting (American card) is harder to find than the blue. It was however also released on a more common Spanish package.

Good new, as this sample post will officially be Part One!

Great stuff. I used to collect Galoobs. I had them all except for Big Josh, the UK Variant Steiners, Windham, and Zenk. These wre great figures with excelletn sculpts. The guy that actually did the sculpting on these was the owner OSFT I believe. I had every sting...robed, black, orange, blue. Good stuff

Awesome job on this post. Galoob was always one of my favorite lines. They were detailed and displayed great. I would have loved more of these figures to have been released.

You missed the Sting and Lugar 2 pack. Also, do you know anything about the black and yellow Sting? I've never seen that one before.
