its a shame HBK never got a proper WWE title run after his return...actually ANY WWE title run. he only had the WHC for a short time.[/quote] 1 month....

basically,the whole story is this:
HBK first injured his back wrestling Ken Shamrock in Dec. 1997... but didn't think it was too serious...he then made it worse in the casket match at RR 1998,when he took a bump over the top rope and landed, with his back,on the edge of the casket...AGAIN,it didn't feel too serious, then one day he woke up in tremendous pain and couldn't walk....he rehabbed it for the nearly 2 months between RR and WM14,and was able to wrestle his "last" match....
in Jan, 1999 he had surgery on it,which he says immediately limited the pain and he felt good....
in 2002,Vince called him up and asked him if he'd like to work with the newly reformed nWo as a manager/bodyguard type of thing....he said yes...once the group fell apart,he went to Vince with the idea for the 2 of them to have a streetfight, basically to keep HBK with a role in the company, and he also felt it was a match he could do since it required no real athleticism....Vince was all for it,but then changed his mind and decided it would be better with HHH..... i really don't think he intended to do as much as he did,but he said the back felt great since the surgery, and as the match went on and he tried out moves he discovered he could do a lot more than originally anticipated...
