Was this always the scheduled SD! main event? I was VERY much into this year and 2003, but I ended up missing a lot of the time in the fall to prepare for a bodybuilding show. I had heard it was supposed to have been Lesnar vs. Hogan

Lesnar vs. Hogan was the original plan, but Hogan insisted on winning the belt at Vince wasn't going to make THAT mistake again after his Undisputed Title run bombed months before. The plan became either Benoit vs. Lesnar or Big Show vs. Lesnar, and so WWE decided to pull Show out of jobbing on RAW and turn him into something. People forget what he lost cause he seemed to be by that point and it really is impressive how he and WWE turned things around in regards to his career.

I even enjoyed the little segment with him and Eric backstage alluding to the fact that nothing was being done with him on Raw before being "traded". On a side note, how about that belly to belly during that match? Was that freakish or what?

I was just a casual fan at the time, I didn't really begin reading the interne news until late 2004, I really enjoyed this match, Heyman betraying Lesnar.

SS 2002 was a great event and this match was a big part of it.te whole swerve was very well done.
SD in 2002 was a testament to Heymans booking skills.

Show/Lesnar feud & the Smackdown 6 made Smackdown unmissable around the fall of 2002.

Great match & definitely as a kid who didn't read into the internet sites at that time was amazed when Heyman turned on Lesnar. It was one of those "that wasn't suppose to happen!" moments as a kid.

The Tag Team scene then was amazing too! It never got old with the different matches they could have.

2002 was a great year, I hate when the pg fans here say it sucked.

Show/Lesnar feud & the Smackdown 6 made Smackdown unmissable around the fall of 2002. Agreed, a great time for post-Invasion WWE.

2002 was a terrible year outside of SmackDown in the fall/winter.

2002 was a terrible year outside of SmackDown in the fall/winter. The first three months were brilliant, up until the Draft. After that it went steadily downhill until about October (sans the Taker affair storyline and Katie Vick). The PPV's were decent though.

i enjoyed the lesnar/show feud, real evidence of the sacrifice bigshow was willing to make to help the business and get lesnar over.

2002 was a terrible year outside of SmackDown in the fall/winter. Seriously. What does not being bothered by the PG rating have to do with hating 2002? It was horrible. The main events were abysmal. Triple H and Jericho, while decent, was completely misplaced, Hogan/Taker and Taker/Triple H were both awful as 2002 'Taker was absolutely terrible. Raw bored the hell out of me and was fairly dull outside of Shawn/Taker...but really, their 3 Stages of Hell sucked compared to Summerslam 2002. Doesn't match my hate for 2003 though.

2002 was a great year, I hate when the pg fans here say it sucked. I hate it when any fans that started watching post-2008 are called "PG fans." Shut up and stop being pretentious. 2002 had some of the best booking in WWE history, imo. Show's transition to the main event after being in the same boat as guys like Bradshaw was brilliant. The Heyman turn put the icing on the cake as well. So you insult but also agree with me? I admit I hate most new wrestling fans, they don't know anything.

People who don't mind current WWE aren't necessarily "new fans", I'm a fan of WWE's current direction and I've been a fan for the last 10 years. What's wrong with that?

I agree with this, I don't think this era of WWE is any worse than any other era of WWE, they're all good for different reasons and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.
