For some reason, I always like the Doink the Clown character, but it wasn't until watching the Best of RAW Season 1 and 2 DVD that I realized how popular he was. That leads me to my question, why did they just stop the character after a while? In theory, couldn't it still be a character going on today, just replacing it with no name guys creative has nothing for? He never was a high flyer, so it's not like his moveset would be terribly hard to emulate. It's just something I've always thought about.

I always preferred the Matt Bourne version of Doink. Once he left the character went down hill drastically. But I wish they would continue the gimmick of him as an evil clown. As long as they stayed away from dressing little people up just like him.

Looks wise, sure u can do that, but promo wise no... Matt Bourne was the perfect guy for him. As a face i feel Doink is very annoying and wrestlecrap worthy, but as a heel... a creepy heel at that, he was pretty damn good, and no one could have done a creepy doink better then Bourne imo

what zoso said there is only ONE doink! matt bourne was awesome as doink. he had incredible charisma and totally sold the whole psycho aspect of the clown. plus he was a good wrestler as well. after he left, the character sucked and became nothing but a silly comedy act. heel knocking the daylights out of crush with a loaded cast = great the brooklyn brawler and a midget trying to make kids laugh = not so much GOOD: WRESTLECRAP DELUXE:

One kid looked like he crapped his pants. Evil Doink's theme is awesome.

Evil Doink was awesome!
Quick question. With the Jakks Doink figures is there a different head sculpt for Evil Doink or is it just a repaint?

The reason they canned Doink is because the fans were sick of him.

Like many have said already, Matt Borne as [evil] Doink was gold. I WISH WWF had run with the evil clown gimmick longer as I think even without Borne playing the character, the gimmick still would've been over. A cool way to escape the gimmick once it got old was to have the man actually be revealed and just become a psycho-heel. A nice way to change with times IMO.
No pun intended, but the face Doink the Clown was a joke. Once he became a face,t he gimmick went downhill fast. I think it could've nee saved had another heel run been given.
Regarding th question the the CS Doink; no, one scan/sculpt was used but had different paint schemes.

I miss those squash matches. Doink would have been a great heel character, but I don't know if the timing was right. At the time the WWF was made fun of as a "circus" and having a "clown" was a butt of the jokes in wrestling publications. I think if he would have been launched in the Attitude era as the evil clown he would have made a stronger impact.

an "unmasking" of evil doink would have been cool. he could have had an attire like matt bourne had in ecw after wwf shitcanned him. during the attitude era he could really have gone over the top. (I also think an eugene heel turn would have had potential)

Ha, that's exactly what I thought. glad I'm not the only one lol, that gimmick would fit perfectly in with the PG era, theres nothing more child friendly than a clown, but making him an evil clown, its not too hardcore for the kids but its still edgy.

The reason they canned Doink is because the fans were sick of him. Yeah, but why were the fans sick of him?? It's because the guy playing him sucked and became more annoying than good. Matt Bourne played the evil Doink character to a "T". Once he left, and he was replaced with a guy who wasn't half the wrestler he was, it went downhill. Then, they turned him face and brought in a midget as his sidekick, and brought in 2 other midgets and it just kept getting worse and worse. It was pathetic what Doink became. Evil Doink was the best when he hammered Crush with the fake arm. For the newer fans that haven't seen it, I have it up on YouTube on my account. Here it is. Enjoy!! ;D
