He should have NEVER.....EVER went to the WWE. They made a complete joke out of him and ruined any momentum he had in the United States. I agree. Van was a MONSTER prior to his WWF-run. WWF killed him during the course of his stint and by the time he left he was on the losing end of matches with Mark Henry and Blackjack Bradhsaw. So sad really.

I think that was the start of his downfall, and HBK refusing to drop the title to him was the nail in the coffin. He could have been huge in the States, no doubt about it, but politics brought him down. His program with Hogan wasnt really that bad. His feud with Flair/Anderson was great. Hell even his whole White Castle of Fear thing that he did with Sting was by far the most cheesiest thing Ive seen in WCW in a long time (which is saying something) but even it made him look like a complete and utter badass.

His momentum was ruined in the US way before he came to the WWF, he was pretty much buried once Hogan came into the WCW. I love Vader and I consider him to be one of the best big men of all time, and one of my favorites during the early 90's, but why is it that most people ignore his dominance and point to his use of a moonsault as the reason why he is one of the greatest big men? I feel that agility should not have any bearing on how great a big man is, but I guess I'm in the minority. Vader without the moonsault is still great, while Bam Bam without the head ink, and cartwheels's is just Jerry Blackwell with snappy ring gear.

Funny story...
Back at one of the very first Nitro's, right after Vader had been released, the last issue of WCW Magazine came with a Vader mask. Well, me & my mom had front row seats and the guy sitting beside us was a big, bald guy. The guy had one of the Vader masks and put it on and they would NOT bring the camera to our side of the ring. I think we maybe got on tv once during the whole show.
*edit* I even found a video on youtube from that night! Starting at the 3:12 mark when Flair is up against the railing. They STILL wouldn't show the dude in the Vader mask, but there I am haha!

To be fair, he was nearing the end of his career as a tp guy even before going to WWE, with all of his injuries. Granted, he should beaten HBK for the title at summerslam 96. Aside from that I think he did ok. He made a large some of money and got to wrestle on the biggest stage of them all. You know, now that I think about it... I really wish it had been him and Taker for the title at Wrestlemania 13. That would have been awesome. True, but we did get a cracker in the end at canadian stampede. I loved Vader,i have a soft spot for hard hitting tough guys. the end of 97/98 was the worse time for him i feel,he was made to look so weak. His matches against inoki and misawa are among my favorite of all time. I also regret not seeing him face Goldberg,it would have been some purists worst nightmare, but i would have loved it

Vader had a great career. Vince should have kept him strong, Vader could have stayed in the main event picture much longer.

Now sure he didnt pick up many if any wins against Hogan in WCW but really, who did? His final days he was still in the main event (set to team with Hogan, Sting and Savage in Wargames) and one of his final feuds were against the Horsemen where he actually defeated Flair AND Anderson in a handicap match. It was like WWF where they finished his career off against someone like Bob Holly on Sunday Night Heat

I prefer Vader's time in Japan, where he was immensely over and just a monster...his German suplex to Inoki is still the most amazing one I've ever seen...

By far, the best monster heel of all time. I still watch his match with Stan Hansen from time to time whenever I've got a raging hard-on for some good ol' fashioned violence.

It certainly put him in a bad light but McMahon is kinda like Lane Kiffin was. The only bad news is no news at all. Vader, even negative, was a much talked about situation and brought attention to the WWE so Vince probably liked that. However that was nearly a year before he was released. He still feuded with Kane and was one of the main Americans to defend against the Hart Foundation who held all the titles.

What do you guys think of him? I feel he is one of wrestlings all time greats. However he was so badly treated in WWE. He should have had a WWE Title reign but unfortunately he was mostly in lowercard feuds and in the end became a jobber to the stars. What do you think of him? He was amazing in the early 90s. I still remember him folding up Sting like an accordian with a power bomb. Awesome! For a 400+ lber, he was a sight to behold due to his agility. His matches with Hansen in Japan were some majorly stiff slugfests too. Vader did a lot of great things in the biz. I would also agree that WWE mishandled him terribly. I certainly would have prefered a Vader title run in late '96 over Sucko Sid's awful reign.

Vader is without doubt the best big man in the business. He was huge, had a truly menacing persona & could work several different styles. He could surprisingly do high flying moves considering his size, plus he wrestled "shoot style" in the UWFI where he looked a freaking killer plus he could wrestle the more traditional power based brawling. He got over all around the World, apart from the WWF sadly. The starty of his WWF career looked promising destroyiong Commish Gorilla & being suspended but all downhill from there.
To be fair though WCW had cracked at his credibility long before with the terrible feud vs. Hogan & the whole face turn. Getting his ass kicked backstage by Mr. Wonderful didn't help either!!

His matches with Stan Hansen (Japan or even WCW), Sting, Cactus Jack and Ric Flair were great. I would put money that he's the best big man in wrestling. Ever. Big Van Vader is awesome. WWF screwed him up something terrible. Totally agree! The power of the kliq
