Ive seen a perfect picture somewhere old school but I cant remember it it was online or in a magazine. Ill look for it and post it if I can find it.
As for the actual title. The Original is/was owned by Ric Flair. The title he brought to the WWF and eventually returned to WCW was infact the original title (Releathered as the original was on a maroon strap). Version 2 came about around 94-95 and it known mostly as the title with the bend in the top of it. (How it got bent nobody knows to my knowledge) Version 3 Was created in 99-00 and it was the typical title you saw at the end of WCW to when Booker brought it to the WWF.
From what Ive read WCW officials "traded" the Version 2 (bent top) to Hogan to get the newer version back. Flair owned the Original until giving it as a gift to Triple H. Its still assumed that Hogan has Version 2. Of course the WWE owns the 3rd Version of the belt as well as the 4th design which has the WWE logo.
There was numerous rumors that there were multiple titles but from everything Ive read there has actually only been 3 which were releathered numerous times.
This is wrong. The original big gold is currently in a cabinet in scott steiner's house. In the late 90's WCW took the original title and made 5 cast copies of it. All 6 belts were then used at various times on television. I'm not sure where all the cast copies ended up but WWE has one, DDP has one and Hogan has one or two. The belt that was brought to WWE was one of the cast copies, Steiner kept the original. Flair does own the original nwa domed globe belt.
Ive heard the rumors of Steiner holding the belt but Ive also seen video where Flair and HHH both have said that he (HHH) owns the original. (Ill try and look sometime for the videos). Also the only cast copies Ive ever heard that were used on TV were the one with the bent top and the one at the end of WCW. Much like the domed globe Rhodes and Race both owned (rhodes sold his) cast copies but were never ring used.
Speaking of the NWA domed title....Technically Flair doesnt own it anymore. Here is the issue with the NWA title...
As it turns out, Flair doesn't technically own the championship. According to a document acquired by PWInsider.com, the belt had been previously used as collateral as part of a financial issue between Flair and Matthews, North Carolina corporation Conbraco Industries, Inc. that pre-dated Flair's issues with Highspots.
On 8/26/08, Flair and Conbraco jointly filed a secured loan via a Universal Commercial Code (UCC) document. That filing created a lien against Flair's property, preventing him from selling it off without settling whatever debt he has to Conbraco.
While the financial background of what led to Flair's dealings with Conbraco isn't immediately clear, that documentation listed the following items as collateral that the corporation could conceivably seize from Flair's possession:
*Flair's NWA championship belt (specifically listed as original)
*Flair's WCW championship belt (specifically listed as replica)
*Flair's "wrestling robes, trunks, and boots"
*Flair's "Wrestling Hall of Fame ring"
*Flair's "Presidential Rolex, inscribed with "To Be The Man."
*Flair's "framed magazine covers, which include his likeness."
*A 4x3 autographed poster of Michael Jordan
*a 4x3 autographed poster of Vince McMahon and Flair.
*a framed, personalized Kevin Green jersey.
*Commercial claims arising from a previous lawsuit Flair was involved with.
*Additional "proceeds and products."
Conbraco recently approached Highspots to inform them that while they have yet to claim possession of any Flair assets, they would legally pursue any money raised from the sale of the belt, as they have a legal claim to the belt and its worth.
