I know I'm more than ten years too late but I just picked up the special edition of this and all I can say is wow. It was an absolutely stunning documentary. It shed a completely different light on it for me. I was always anti-bret but after watching that I have a hard time feeling that way about the situation now. That was just dirty. On an unrelated note... totally jealous of his son having Sunny all over him. That was and still is one fine woman

Still reckon it was a little too convieniant for the biggest angle/screwjob in WWF history to have a documentary covering it. Still smells like a work to me.

Bought this on DVD last month, very good watch. Ever since watching, I wonder what would of happened if Bret signed that 20 Year Contract i.e. Would it of prevented Owen's Death etc....

Mr.McMahon was born and Vince saved $20m, Bret made $3m per annum out of it. I think if it wasn't for Bret's concussion/stroke, he would have come back in 2001 as part of WCW invasion as the possible leader. Vince & Bret just strung the work along as a shoot for so long, so Bret's anticipated/eventually comeback would generate huge controversy.

It is very possible that they fooled all of us with this "Screwjob" angle.... If so, then bravo to them...

Yes love it. I just recently picked it up about 2 months ago as well. I must say I think they could've done more with the life and death of owen hart though.

I also still think it was the best work ever, only to be ruined by Owen's death. Had Owen not died and Bret not getting his head kicked in, I believe Bret would've came back to the WWE in 2000 and finsh the angle once and for all.

I once saw a shoot with Honkey Tonk once and like he said
"if the screw job hadn't of happened that would of been the worst documentary in history!"
i enjoyed it tho. haven't seen it in a while.

I dunn about it being a work.......most wrestlers in their shoots describing that time seem to think it was legit.

I know lots of people are convinced its a work but I've never brought that myself.
As for the Doc, its great. One of the fiurst opportunities to go beyond the curtain

Ever since watching, I wonder what would of happened if Bret signed that 20 Year Contract i.e. Would it of prevented Owen's Death etc.... My understanding is that Bret did sign the 20-year contract and would have been happy to honor it, but in summer or fall of 1997, Vince McMahon told Bret he couldn't afford to pay it anymore and allowed Bret to seek a deal with WCW. So in exchange for letting Vince out of the 20-year contract, Vince basically allowed Bret to jump to WCW with a very brief grace period instead of the typical 90-day no-compete clause.

-- Not sure if we'll ever know if it was a work or not, maybe the truth will come out like the Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler slap on Letterman.
The Doc itself was amazing! I just hate that when A&E used to rerun it, they'd cut out a few parts and not show it in it's entirety.

A few thoughts:
This DOC was one of the first to highlight that wrestlers regularly got hurt in the ring. Some people still labor under the assumption that mock combat isn't dangerous.
Stu Hart sounds like he was a dangerous man in his salad days.
Like many wrestlers, I think Bret was too wrapped up in his character. He kept saying, "The hero has to prevail" and wondering why the fans were cheering Austin instead of him.
Despite the fact that I think putting the belt on HBK was the right move (he should have been champ sooner and more often) the locker room scene was pretty despicable. Everyone lying to Bret afterwards, including HBK, made no sense to me.
My favorite scene is still Bret's wife scolding HHH. Road Warrior Animal, all 300+ pounds of him, looks like he's ready to whiz in his pants out of fear. ;D ;D ;D

i'm surprised so many people still think this was a work...
i admit i've had my doubts in the past but c'mon, there has been way too much fuss about this for it to be a simple work...after all the books that touched on the subject, the numerous interviews through the years with guys like lance storm and others...
it would shock me if it was to ever come out that all these years all these different people were all playing along with it.
some things in wrestling are real and i'm positive this incident was one, if not the, best example of how messed up things can get.
