Where does it say every cage match has to be bloody and brutal? There's no reason a cage match can't be a technical bout. At all. There's no cage match formula. The key component is utilizing the cage, which they did. Your jungle gym analogy = fail. Ric Flair basically created the cage match formula and he utilized the cage the way it should have been utilized, as a weapon. Flair's opponents wanted Flair in a cage to keep the Horsemen out, not so they could perform technical wrestling clinics. Right. That's one way to wrestle a cage match, but it's not the only way. That can be Flair's formula, but it doesn't have to be everybody's formula. Just like ladder matches, there are multiple ways to go about it. You can have a spot fest, like Wrestlemania 17, or you can have psychology, like Wrestlemania 10, and both work. It's the same for cage matches; you can have them bloody and violent, or you can have them technical and brutal (because the match did have some stiff shots in it, especially considering it had the blue, thick bars). Both work too.
