Wow, those look really good! Can't wait to see the finished product. I dig the realistic looking proportions and that Deluxe...umm Elite Collectors figures look really good too. I hope they're also 6 inch. I thought I was going to be done collecting simply for the fact that I didn't want to start over...now...I'm not so sure. Is that a good or bad thing??

I'm still looking forward Jakks take on TNA, hopefully they're DA, as that's what I collect.
Weren't Mattel going to do a belt set for their figures?.

My thoughts......... First of all, is the prices. There is no way, I will pay $14 and $21 for a single figure. That is totally off the charts. I take it you didn't go in for the DA figs, eh? Those were $12. Is the 2-3 dollar difference worth it for accurate scaling and removable gear? I think so.

Beth looks absolutely terrific. I decided when the announcment was made I was probably only going to buy rookie figures and other figures that Jakks messed the scale up on. I'll likely buy shorter guys like Bourne but from the looks of Beth, I'll probably be buying divas too.

They sure do look alot like R3 figures. I will say, at least they are not half assing there figure lines like Jakks is with the last few series of there CS and RA series. Over all, not bad. Much better than I thought they were going to be. 90% is my grade for them.

Well, I'm a little less excited now so I'll state my "test figures" from this line. Now, don't get me wrong, I think they're all quite impressive, but I wanna buy 2-4 of these figures and test them out before either quitting collecting or continuing. From the basic series I'll pick up Triple H and Batista or maybe Evan Borne. Then I'll definatly pick up that Jericho/HBK two-pack. I also HAVE to get that Elite Undertaker. It looks fantastic.

So I've had some time to think about these some more and I gotta say...I'm still not a fan.
They look like a hybrid of Toybiz WCW figures and Jakks R3 figures to me.
The knee pads and boots look terrible. The pads are way too long and the boots remind of the Toybiz WCW figures.
They way that they kinda airbrush the skin looks really strange.
The Flex Force figures look like generic Mexican knockoffs.
I think Jakks did a better job with their weapons. I do give Mattel credit though for the MVP headband and necklaces.
I think they have too many different lines that are too similar.
I don't know, I'm just not digging these. The only one that I really like is the Beth Phoenix. Looks like I may be done with WWE figures unless all the Diva figures look that good.

Definitely improved overall. Mattel took these superstars from the cartoony look that Jakks provided and gave them something that looks realistic. A BIG problem I had was Jakks made ridiculous looking abs that looked anything but realistic. In the Jakks/Batista image it looked like he had a radiator on his stomach. Also notice Mattel improved the thighs. On all of the Jakks action figures the thighs looked fat and over sized. At least the definition to the thighs is proper with the Mattel action figures. At least we won't get any of that! A trademark of Jakks is either making a wrestler's head too big or too small for his or her body. That part was always annoying as hell. I also hope it will be easier to move these wrestlers' body parts than the Jakks action figures. While I was collecting the old school Tron Ready figures, which were very fun to play with, they came out with these R3 figures which was a pain in the ass to play with them or even move their arms and legs. Then a year later Jakks came out with the action figures they're currently releasing, which aren't all that flexible or fun to play with either. I hope Mattel improved the flexibility of the action figures. The only thing that disappoints me is the ring. It looks very similar to the Jakks spring ring, which was very small. And the turnbuckles are awful.

Ok, now that i'm not falling asleep at 4:30am... it's time for some reviews. I apologize for the long post, haha.
Superstar Match-Up Series 1
This looks just like Mattel's version of Jakks' "gear" sets, that have come with figures. So, I can't really talk about the creativeness or anything of this set.
Rey Mysterio
Not too sure how to feel about his figures, here. This one looks TERRIBLE with the height problem. By these protos, it looks like his legs are half of the figure... which should not be the case for Mysterio. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say this is just the angle/stance of the figure.
Shawn Michaels ( DX )
Now this was the first figure we've seen thats completely blown me away. This is exactly what I like from these Mattel lines. He seems to be in great scale. Not too small, but not too big. This headscan, is one of the better ones... which sadly isn't saying much, though. Thats something Mattel needs to work on, going by these protos. His torso isn't ripped and rather just average... which seems like it's being used for a lot of guys in these series ( good thing ). The best part, is the detail in these pants. Not only are all the designs there and in great color, but the pants have the detail in the fabric of the pants. They didn't use the sweatpants mold that Jakks used for Michaels' pants. But rather, pants... like he actually wears.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2-Packs Series 1
Obviously Mattel's "Adrenaline" series, which is my personal favorite from Jakks. Mattel did not disappoint with this set, going by these protos. Good to see we're getting a variety of talent from the get go, rather than: Triple H & Shawn Michaels ( DX ), The Undertaker vs. Edge and Randy Orton vs. John Cena. We're already seeing a diva, some mid carders and some main eventers.
Santino Marella
I'd say one of the more disappointing figures, out of these protos. The headscan is pretty good, looks a little cartoon-ish, but Santino is very animated with his facial expressions. So it's fairly understandable. The body, I feel, is a little too skinny for Santino. However, the detail in his attire is great and a great choice for the attire, as well. The main problem I have with these lines is the huge boots. I really hope it's just the angle he's on, but Santino's right foot looks like a space boot.
Beth Phoenix
I would say EASILY one of the gems of these 2-Packs. The headscan is already better than Jakks' and the overall body mold is great. She has the muscles in the arms, that Jakks also gave her... however, the lower legs are bigger, as they should be. Beth has some strong thighs and Mattel has captured it very well with this figure. The attire choice and painting are also great. No detail missing with her attire ( like Jakks missed ) and the glossy paint ( which Jakks also missed ). The shiny feel to her attire adds that much more to the figure and truly makes her one of the gems. It also seems she has the articulation in the legs, much like the DA figures do... which would be great, for us that play with the figures. As we'd then be able to perform he finisher ( whatever it's called, haha ).
Ted DiBiase
This is an awesome figure, yet clearly Photoshopped to all hell. Either way, i'll talk as if it hasn't been and is the final product. The headscan is possibly the best out of any of these series. Captures Ted's likeness so well and a great expression that he's always making, to boot. Unlike Jakks, Mattel has nailed his body mold. Jakks choice of the heavyweight torso is the reason I haven't picked up a DiBiase yet. Mattel has given him a torso that should fit a young, in shape talent. It's not gigantic, but shows the muscles in his torso... like it should be. Can't see the design on the trunks, but i'd imagine it's there. Just going by the detail in the other figures.
Cody Rhodes
Much like DiBiase, this figure looks great, yet seems Photoshopped. The headscan is great, the attire is wonderful and the body size is dead on. My only problem with this figure is the torso choice. Cody is much less in shape than Ted, but these two share the same torso. One simple flaw, that I could still overlook. Jakks heavyweight torso is obnoxious and takes away from playability. However, it doesn't seem like it will from the Mattel lines.
Chris Jericho
Downright another gem of this series. The headscan looks ok, but could use some more realism. It will suffice, but a worked out one for the final product would be ideal. Once again, the body mold works for him greatly. The size is great and even the torso selection is pretty dead on. Jericho is in shape, but isn't chizzled. The detail in the attire and kickpads are absolutely mind blowing. This figure ( once again ) is easily another gem, along with Phoenix.
Shawn Michaels
Without re-reviewing the DX one, i'll just point out differences. The scan looks a little more detailed in this picture, so thats a major plus. The attire is still dead on, with the tan and the "chap"-like look. But what shows in here, is the tattoo. Not something Jakks failed or missed on, but it's good to see that the tattoo still looks accurate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WrestleMania Heritage Series 1
Very, VERY creative and interesting idea for a series. It'll be great to see what talent and/or attires. Hoping to see some Rockers, Hart Foundation, Warrior coughcough Savage coughcough, etc. A decent selection for the first series, although I would've tossed in more legends... rather than the likes of Cena, Batista and Edge. I'm not gonna review those 3 however, since they have other figures in the Basic and Elite lines.
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin
The headscan is absolutely brilliant and dead on. Torso is great as are the trunks. Even though it'd be hard to mess up plain black trunks. My only complaint is the choice for his boots. Austin is kinda "known" in the figure-fan world, for have shorter boots. If this small problem is fixed, this would be a great pick-up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Entrance Greats Series 1
Brilliant, brilliant idea here. Great job, Mattel! This is easily aimed towards the loose collectors and mark my words... these will sell very well. I would consider this Mattel's version of "Unmatched Fury", however... it seems these will have playability. If so, I might HAVE to collect these. If not, I might still collect, to display.
Aztec Rey Mysterio
The figure follows the same problem as the Match-Up one does, with his legs being half of his body. The mold however, I do like. Mysterio's upper body being smaller and his lower legs being baggy, for his pants. Clearly though, the focal point to this figure is the feathered headwear, chest piece and belt. Fantastic detail in this and once again... truly something to open the strong collectors eyes.
King of Kings Triple H
Where do I start? Really. This thing is breathtaking, with all of it's detail and accuracy. The comparison pictures from this and Jakks' version is where it truly comes to life. The crown and necklace look completely molded, yet removable. Which is definitely a bright side to this figure. The cape is great, and very realistic. Really, the detail and realism is just the centerpiece to this entire series and this Triple H is HANDS DOWN the gem. If any of these will be purchased, it'll definitely be this one.
Iron Man Shawn Michaels
Sadly, i'd have to say this is the bland and boring one of the set. But thats not even taking away from the figure, just that the Triple H and Mysterio ones had my jaw on the floor. The detail and realism in this figure are still top notch. With the see through portion of his jacket and even the scan being different, compared to his "up to date" figures. Even though it's not AS good as the Triple H and Rey Mysterio ones, this will still be worth having.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basics Series 1
Much like the 2-Packs, this series has an awesome variety. Rather than getting: Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Edge, Randy Orton and John Cena... we're getting ( once again ) some midcarders and main eventers alike. Much like the 2-Packs, these come with stands... which is awesome. I usually keep my figures in a bin, which causes paint marks, etc... as we all now. Now, when not using them, we can display these works of art. Definitely a big plus for the series.
John Cena
The headscan is really good on this figure, looks a little Photoshopped though. So I just hope it doesn't wind up looking like the WrestleMania Heritage figure. Cena's steroid use comes out very well on this figure, with his abnormal torso. No, really, the torso looks a little unrealistic, for my liking. The shorts mold does looks great, but it seems like the playability will be crap. Not something Jakks has done greatly either, but i'd like it if Mattel would fix this problem. Only time will tell, when we can get these in hand. Also not too sure how the ankle mold will work, for Cena's shoes, for it's playability and movement.
Triple H
Minus the orange of his hair, his headscan is great. The expression Triple H is normally making is used here and it's captured by Mattel very well. Sadly, he suffers the same fate that Cena does, with the unrealistic torso. Yes, Triple H does look fairly abnormal the flexing... however, it doesn't turn out well on the figure. Can't comment on the attire, since it can't be seen. As usual, though, you kinda can't messed that up either. So i'm sure Mattel will come through with that, as well.
Evan Bourne
Can we say the gem of the ENTIRE line-ups? This figure is 99.9% flawless. The scan is dead on and captured his likeness oh so very well. The choice for parts are great... from the torso, arms, legs, kickpads, everything! The detail in his attire is something Jakks dropped the ball on majorly and now Mattel has picked that ball up and have run it into the end zone. I must say though, the major eye opener on this figure is the mold made FOR Bourne's kickpads. That says so much for Mattel's WWE lines and give me high hopes for the future. This figure is once again, almost flawless and will be the hardest to find... mark my words.
Kofi Kingston
Also another really good figure, from this set. His headscan is good, but the mouth does look fairly cartoon-like. That can be fixed, though and hopefully it will. His body size and molds were chosen well, no complaints with that. The detail ( as usual ) is just phenomenal in this figure.
Big Show
Wow, is all I have to say for this figure. Someone so simple and Mattel is giving us what we want, already. The shorts that Jakks would never give us, got it. The headscan is great, but thats not hard to nail. The body size looks gigantic, which is great and should be fun to see how he looks "face to face" with the likes of Bourne, Mysterio, etc. Definitely a figure that will be nice to have, for the collection.
Batista
Still not sure how I feel about this figure. Everything is flawless. The headscan, the body size and molds, the attire and detail... just everything. My only complaint is my main complaint with these Basic/2-Packs lines. The lack of the leg joint, that the DAs have. I'm guessing this is where the Elite line will strongly help guys like Batista, CM Punk, etc. So we can perform their finishers. Such as Batista Bomb, GTS, Hell's Gates, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elite Series 1
This will most likely be the line i'll have to collect, especially if they are in scale with the Basic and 2-Packs lines. The articulation interests me beyond belief, just not sure I wanna spend $15 on one SINGLE figure. It'll have to be something I ( any many others ) will have to think about, before making that decision. The accessories and detail make these figures HIGHLY worth the $15. Something Jakks unfortunately couldn't give up and once again... Mattel is picking up the ball. They look A LOT like Toy Biz's TNA line, which kinda worries me. I just hope the joints aren't as stiff and easily broken, like the TNA line was.
CM Punk
The headscan is dead on, as usual. The expression was a good choice, which adds to the figure. From what can be seen, both the detail on the attire and the part choices are great selections. The shirt accessory is a nice addition. Also love the looks of the kickpads, with the thickness and shape. The articulation is a major upside to this line and the fact that they are supposedly in scale to the Basic and 2-Packs line... makes it better than the RA to DA comparison.
The Undertaker
From what we can see from the scan, it looks pretty damn accurate. The best thing from this figure, i'd say, is the attire and part selection. Jakks went and put kickpads on Taker, BAD move. Undertaker does not wear kickpads and makes the figure very inaccturate. Mattel make a longer and taller boot mold, which is the right choice. Accuracy is a big pet peeve of mine, when it comes to action figures. Can't really comment on the attire detail too much though, since we can't see any of the designs or tattoos. The trench coat however, is a great addition to this figure. I'd have love his current entrance attire, but i'd say he hasn't been using it long enough yet. Can't wait to see this figure without the coach or hat, but I have a feeling it won't be until we have it in hand... unfortunately.
Rey Mysterio
This figure, again... has it's ups and downs. The scan is mediocre and doesn't capture his likeness too well, but it'll suffice. All of the part choices are great and really bring out this figure. In this proto, you can see better how short this figure will be. Again, they need to work on his legs. Theres no need for them to be half of the figure's body. If they could fix this small problem, we'd be good to go. The mask and shirt are fantastic additions to the figure, to really add to it... at least for us "players". The mask will be a fun accessory to put on and take off, for a more realistic feel to the figure.
MVP
Awesome, simple awesome. The headscan is awesome and the nose strip really puts it over the top, again with the detail. The attire choice, although outdated, is the best choice for MVP. The detail is once again outstanding on this figure. My only problem is that MVP doesn't exactly wear kickpads. Again, it could just be the angle, since we can't see the back of his legs. I just hope that is the case and we get an accurate MVP here. The accessories are once again, great choices. Much like the Mysterio, these accessories will add so much to the realistic feel of the figure.
Edge
Damn this headscan straight to hell. Mattel, if your listening... this headscan NEEDS to be fixed ASAP. Looks nothing like Edge and looks like a low-budget company made this head. Everything else looks great. The torso isn't ripped and is spot on to what Edge's torso actually looks like. The attire choice is perfect, for his most recent look. The detail on his attire is awesomely done, still. My only nit-pick is the choice for his accessory. Very outdated, as Edge hasn't worn his coat in quite some time. A "Rated R Superstar" shirt would have been better and more dated and accurate. Much like the Taker, can't wait to see how the tattoos and armbands look like under his coat.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So overall, i'm leaning more towards the Elite line. However, I like having a vast selection of talent. So I might collect the Basic and 2-Packs lines, as well. My main hope is that the Elite figures aren't like Toy Biz's TNA line, with the stiff joints and easily broken joints. I also hope that the Elite figures are in scale with the Basic and 2-Packs figures. Since guys like Batista, CM Punk, etc. NEED those joints, to perform their finishers accurately.
I have extreme high hopes and faith that Mattel will put of a great product come 2010. Jakks had some great years, even in 2008-2009. Even though some have been terrible, Jakks has been churning out a good product still. It's a new era for us wrestling figure collectors and i'm excited to not only have these Mattel figures in my hand next year, but to also see what Jakks will put out for the TNA line. Heres for a great year of collecting, come 2010!
