Dibiase's biggest downfall was being the top heel at the height of the Hogan era. He was supposed to win the WWF Title at Mania 4, but backstage politics prevented that. Savage was then turned heel to feud with Hogan, instead of a lengthy Savage/Dibiase feud.
Dibiase seemed to be in the position of creative not wanting to make him look weak, but never really gave him the super push to the Title (same as Mr. Perfect). To me its sad that he never held any singles title in the WWF, espeically when people like Sgt. Slaughter and Texas Tornado had title runs durng his heydey.

Speaking of Jake, i remember an angle with savage and miss elizabeth when he hit her. Man the feeling in the crowd and what came across to the tv viewer was electric Jake roberts look at the screen was awesome |

The "Million Dollar Man" gimmick was brilliant, it got him tons and tons of heat... and was remade later for JBL... where it got him tons of heat as well. I would've loved for him to have won the title at 'Mania IV but the world wasn't ready for a heel winning the title at a WrestleMania.

I say he should have actually bought it from Andre the Giant at The Main Event, because that would have been awesome. He did actually buy it from him. There is even video of him wearing the title belt and being introduced as champion at a house show, but he was stripped of it soon after. |
