I'm thinking about doing this reguarly, depending if you guys like it or not. The reviews will not always be wrestling related, nor will they always be classic games.
Today I will be reviewing WCW Backstage Assault. I am playing it on the N64 ,though it was also released for the PS1.
Story/Background Info: Backstage Assault was the second WCW game made by EA when they aqquired the WCW licence, The first being WCW Mayhem. Unlike its predecessor however, none of the action takes place in a ring, only in backstage areas as the name would imply. Backstage Assault has a good roster, with some really obscure wrestlers thrown in.
Gameplay: The gameplay is very arcadey, much like in Mayhem. However, I feel that the arcadeynes works better in this than it did in Mayhem. This game is very easy to pick up and play which I like. There are numerous destructible weapons to throw your oppenents into, some of which are pretty ammusing, like setting your opponents on fire. It is also incredibly cheesey, but so was WCW.
Graphics: The backgrounds look pretty decent for an N64 game. The one thing I must complain about however, is the very awkward looking models. Their legs and feet are overly skinny and it makes them look rediulous.
Sound: The sound is actually pretty good. The commentary is very good considering it was on the N64 with less memory space on a cartridge. The sounds of the action are pretty decent as well.
Overall: This game can get repeditive after a while, but it's a good pick up and play game. If you like a very arcadey experience, chances are you'll enjoy this game.
Score: 2/5
Guilty Pleasure Score: 3/5
So yeh, discuss the game, comment on my review, tell me if you want more of these.
