I remember being really scared if WWF lost at survivor series and thinking ' what the hell' when Maven through out the undertaker at the royal rumble.
Good times.

just bring it sucked for so many reasons. not the least of which being that we all wanted to play as booker t, ddp, rvd, and ric flair but because the games are obviously made in advance we were stuck being hardcore holly vs. the one billy gunn. and then there's this: sd3jbi.ytmnd.comi love tazz's boredom.

How can 2001 be the best year when everybody's sayin it was only good pre-invasion? So that's like what 3 or 4 months?

If anything, I think 2000 was a way better year. It all around pretty solid. Hardy Boyz, Chris Benoit & Eddie Guerrero, Dudleys, Edge And Christian's character development, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Rikishi was pretty entertaining, Triple H 'The Game' Era...There were alot of breakthrough superstars that year

lets not forget playin smackdown just bring it *sobs* haha i hear that! 2001 was a awesome year for me as a wrestling fan. X-7 was awesome, Backlash and Judgement Day so-so. Then when the Invasion angle started heating up around KOTR. I really liked the Invasion angle but didn't really understand why Austin was on the WCW/ECW side. Those were the days when I use to get excited about turning on Raw every Monday and made sure I didn't miss a show. I often times thrown in old VHS tapes of some of the PPVs. Don't get me wrong, I still watch Raw & Smackdown every week, but its not the same as the old days. This topic brings back memories especially when mark said Smackdown: Just Bring it! lol

Although this is admittedly a ridiculous statement, I think if it's possible to ignore the Invasion aspect of the storylines for the second half of the year, and you look at just the cards and the matches for what they were, it was probably the best year in wrestling.
Even with the poor Invasion storyline, there were still a ton of hella-memorable PPVs, matches, and moments from that year. The only bad PPVs that year, IMO were Backlash, Judgment Day, and Vengeance - all of which actually had no part in the Invasion storyline - and even they weren't that terrible and had some memorable moments of their own. And I was still a young, wide-eyed wrestling fan, so I was never bored when watching the weekly shows.
'02 is when everything really started to go downhill, IMO, with nothing really redeemable until the last third or so of the year.
Oh, and not to mention that '01 featured what is still my favorite Raw of all time - the night the Alliance was formed.

lets talk about everything pre invasion because seriously im tired of hearing about, how it sucked and all that 2001 was ing gold Agreed. Goldberg, Hogan, Nash, Hall. We got way better matches during the Invasion era without them. Austin/Angle, Rock/Jericho, RVD/Jeff, Austin/Booker T, Edge/Christian plus the various awesome promo's that took place.

Royal Rumble was pretty damn good, probably one of the better years for the event. No Way Out was decent, but really a buffer before 'Mania. WrestleMania X-Seven was definately one of the best 'Manias. Backlash was a good follow-up from 'Mania not plagued by rematches. Judgment Day was fairly good, but least entertaining this year. King of the Ring was decent, nothing too grand however except Edge's push. InVasion was great, second best in the year before everybody realised nobody good was coming in. SummerSlam was decent, nothing special however, lacked a main event scene here. Unforgiven was fairly good, only for the main event, lacked a credible undercard. No Mercy was pretty decent, had some entertaining matches. Survivor Series was pretty epic in terms of the finale, no matter how predictable the main event was. Vengeance was okay, but it lacked a truly good undercard and focused more on the trio main event.

Though I don't post on this board too often, I saw this topic and had to join in.
2001 is my favorite year in wrestling, with absolutely no exception. Never have I been so enthralled in the storylines and so crazed about the product as I was during that year.
Everyone says they hated the Invasion angle, that it was a failure. I admit it dragged out a bit, but for the most part, I absolutely loved it. If you look at that year, every single Pay-Per-View had something worth watching, whether it be for shock value, or just plain great wrestling.
Royal Rumble, No Way Out and Wrestlemania were absolutely excellent. To this day, it is the best No Way Out and Wrestlemania of all time. Backlash had its moments, as did Judgment Day. King of the Ring is one of of my favorite events of all time - so many excellent matches.
Invasion was huge. Even though you knew it was just a storyline, the build was so excellent that the show was just a ton of fun despite us knowing it didn't really matter at the end of the day.
Summerslam was a fan show, and featured an incredible match between Stone Cold and Kurt Angle, one many seem to forget about. Same goes for Unforgiven. The Jericho/Rock match at No Mercy was nothing short of excellent, and Survivor Series was a ton of fun as well.
Vengeance began a shift in WWE as a whole, adjusting to life after the invasion, and trusting Jericho to take the ball and run with it.
I have fonder memories of 2001 than I do any other year in wrestling, by a long shot.
EDIT:
I totally forgot about this little fact. But, in June of 2001, I ordered my first PPV event since Royal Rumble 1999, King of the Ring. I wanted to capture the whole month of action leading up to the event. So, starting the night after Judgement Day, I recorded every episode of Raw and Smackdown up until King of the Ring.
In that one months time, we got roughly a dozen matches that would be considered match of the year candidates by today's standards. I think I still have most of the tapes, I should transfer them all to DVD someday. Every single Raw and Smackdown felt like a Pay-Per-View, the excitement was unbelievable.

^ Well said man, couldn't agree more. I was fortunate enough to tape all of 2001, RAW, SD and PPV's, and am currently in the process of reliving it via converting everything to DVD in order. Currently at the end of October.
