I've seen/read here before that a lot of people don't like the way the InVasion went down. I can understand that looking back, however I was around 10 or 11 when this all happened and I thought it was pretty cool. That said, for those who watched both WCW, ECW and WWF right before WCW and ECW was bought out (for ECW, went out of business), who do you think should have been in the WWF vs. The Alliance 5 on 5 match at Survivor Series in 2001?
I'm much looking forward to your thoughts.
Also, if this should have been posted in Classic Wrestling, I apologize ahead of time. Please move it if need be.

No matter who won the match it would not have made a difference. The angle was a flop. Personally, I would have loved for WCW/ECW to come out stronger, but it would not matter nonetheless.

Understandable, but I still wouldn't mind knowing who you think should have been in the match. Something like a dream match. Anyone in WCW in 2000/2001 and ECW are applicable in case there was any confusion.

Would have been much better with Goldberg and Sting, they ruined it by having Stone Cold turn on WWF, he should have been WWF's main man.

My dream team for the fued at the time would have been...
Hollywood Hogan Ric Flair or Booker T Goldberg Sting
vs
The Rock Stone Cold Steve Austin Undertaker Triple H
That would have been great but I do like how things played out in the end.

I didn't watched that angle, and I also wondered why many people say it sucked... After thinking about it, it got an answer:
Maybe it wasn't bad, but we all know it could have been better, because they were guys who were more important and were left out.

Just looking at the Survivor Series match;
The Rock, Kane, Undertaker, Big Show, Chris Jericho vs Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, RVD, Shane, Booker T.
if I had to switch JUST that match, I would put Angle on the WWF team. Then remove Shane from the match all together.
Then I would have the Big Show and Jericho one the alliance team.
Alliance: Stone Cold, RVD, Big Show, Chris Jericho, Booker T
Then, I would add Kurt Angle to Team WWF. Then add somebody like maybe edge to it to give him the rub.

Austin should never have been turned.....one of the worst moves EVER by Vinnie.
Team WWE(allowing there was no injuries and all hands signed contracts)
Austin Rock Undertaker HHH Kurt Angle
vs
Ric Flair Sting Scott Steiner Booker T Goldberg
I would have kept the NWO in reserve until the Run to WM and had ECW kept out of it.
thats what I wanted to see at Invasion too.If Vince had only bought out the Time Warner contracts he would have recouped the $$ in weeks.
Goldberg vs Austin at Summerslam 2001(after an alliance Victory at Invasion)would have been a MONSTER.

one of the biggest mistakes was that night where ECW joined the fray. First off, the WCW thing had barely gotten off the ground and the ECW thing would have meant more in the long run if they had held off from it. Then, in the same night, they dropped the bombshell that ECW and WCW were together. That's another plot twist that could have lasted well over a month. And then, they revealed that Stephanie was in charge of ECW, yet another plot point that could have really meant something if it had come later. Basically they hotshotted everything onto that one RAW which WAS really exciting, but only for one night.

Firstly, I would have done the angle literally nothing at all like WWF did. That being said,
Stone Cold Steve Austin The Rock The Undertaker Kurt Angle Chris Jericho
vs.
Hulk Hogan Diamond Dallas Page Ric Flair Booker T. Sting
I wouldn't have added ECW in the mix yet, and if I did I would have put them on a separate team.

I have to agree with the rest of in saying that ECW should have been added sometime down the line. That being said here is what my teams would have looked like:
Austin Rock Undertaker HHH Kurt Angle
vs
Ric Flair Sting Scott Steiner Booker T Goldberg

I loved the storyline simply because Angle/Austin was one of the best things to happen in wrestling. People bitch because it made WCW look bad and didnt include most of the biggest WCW stars (Goldberg and Sting for instance). Well I for one was never a WCW fan outside Hollywood Hogan so I didnt give a crap. I liked how it played out and 2001 heel Austin was at the top of his game.

I loved it, Kurt & Austin were on fire, those segments with Vince are replayed in my head all the time and they were really two of the main reasons I watched plus others like Booker, RVD & Heyman & the McMahons. The Rock sort of irritated me when he came in, but not nearly as much as say Cena does right now as the main face of the show. It was awesome.

working with what they had...Austin, Angle, Rock, Undertaker and Vince McMahon vs. Booker T, DDP, Dudley Boys and RVD...at least have Vince defend his company.

I liked it. I always felt that they did the best with what they had (there was no Sting/Goldberg/Steiner etc.) and it was pretty exciting and unpredictable. Also, it is much easier to armchair book it 8 years later...

At the time, ECW was added because the whole WCW thing was falling completely flat. The lack of stars was very noticeable, and of the WCW stars they did have - Booker T and DDP - they completely killed DDP with that stalker storyline where Undertaker squashed him.
The crazy thing to me is that within a year of the Invasion PPV, the WWF had employed Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Eric Bischoff. If only they hadn't killed the storyline so soon, those guys could've made a huge impact for the WCW side. And in Flair's shoot interview, he said that he was waiting for the call from them all summer... So it's kinda nuts that he started work the day after the Alliance was done.
I also think the Stone Cold turn was kinda stupid, because it went against his obsession with Vince that had been all over TV a few weeks before. But at the same time, when people crapped all over WCW and they made that side the heels, Austin kinda had to go there because the alternative would've been sending Rock to WCW when he came back (which would've made Rock the heel) or having them both on the WWF side (and their combined starpower would've killed WCW). But actually, you know what? I'd have taken the risk and made Rock the heel and put him with WCW. He'd pretty much turn himself babyface for the end of the angle anyway, or he'd make WCW seem like a viable entity again.
So, picking the teams for the Survivor Series, based on who was there/signed and not injured:
Team WWF: Stone Cold, Undertaker, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle vs Team Alliance: The Rock, Ric Flair, RVD, Booker T, DDP
But if it's complete fantasy booking, we can choose to book anyone who was an active wrestler around that time (ie not injured), I'd maybe go with the first ever three-way Survivor Series match:
Team WWF: Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, Kurt Angle vs Team WCW: Goldberg, Sting, Nash, Hall, DDP vs Team ECW: RVD, Raven, Dreamer, Rhyno, Chris Jericho (defected to ECW).

I enjoyed it, it's easy to look back now and say what could or should have been done but at the time I enjoyed it.
I also think Austin gets no where near the credit he deserves for the excellent job he did playing his i guess you could call it schizophrenic paranoid type character.
