The Locked Box
Our minds, the way we think. They keep us living and make things different. But, what if someone said that only 10% of the human brain is ever used in a lifetime. What if there was a group of people that have unlocked the other 90% of their brains and what they could do, the power they possess is so great the world could end. But, all this is what if. Sure it is.
He awoke with a startled gasp, staring at the clock he noticed it was 6:42 am. He was having a bad dream again. They happened more frequently now. The subway roared underneath him with a blaring clangs and clicks. He once again thought he saw a group of people following him, watching him. He wanted to rid himself of these dreams, they clouded his thought and made him feel uneasy.
He felt as if his mind was expanding. Noises were heard but pushed away with a shake of his head. Things were seen, but shuffled to the back of his mind. He didn't want to see things others didn't he just wanted to be normal. Little did he know that later that day his life would change forever.
Halfway across the globe Kina glanced at her clock and groaned.
“6:42, ugh it's too early.” she mumbled
“Work isn't until 9, damn headaches.” she groaned as she got up
Hiroshima was alive and well even at this time. Glancing outside the window while taking an aspirin she noticed something different but couldn't place her mind on it. It was too early and it looked to be hot as hell that day. She just hoped her head would stop throbbing before she had to be into work.
From his second story window in the apartment across the way Shane watched as Ben got into his car and headed to work. Shane's mind was floating away again.
“He has to be told soon and the others have to be gathered, if not it might become too late to even attempt stopping it from happening.”
To all that I know it might already be too late.” He sighed as he pulled out a cigarette for the first time in weeks. He knew this would happen as soon as he came to find out what he had up in his own head.
Dr. Jensen was a very busy person. That day alone called for her to be at a conference by 2 and then she had a full day of patients lined up. Being one of the top surgeons in California was a tough job, and she herself scheduled a doctor's appointment. By the time her day was done she would know more about herself then she ever thought even existed. But, first she had a pesky conference to attend.
As Ben's day wore on it became apparent that his headache was not going to quit. His head ached all day through work. As soon as work was over he headed out into the busy Chicago street, wind twirling around in a breezy summer day. He headed down toward his hotel to try and sleep of his throbbing head. Shane watched closely knowing now was the time. He had to get Ben's attention as soon as he could.
Kina located her keys after digging in her purse and opened her car door. She hated having to drive in the 8 am rush hour but, she knew she had to, She overslept and needed to get to work as soon as possible. As she pulled out of the parking garage she once again got a throbbing sensation which made her stop abruptly she almost made the car behind her tail end her. She pulled away at the green light and hoped like hell her head would quit aching.
As Dr. Jensen opened her office door she noticed something was different. After having been at her doctor's appointment and then at an almost all day conference she just couldn't think. She then realized she had a message on her cell phone which she had left in her office. When she pressed the play button, her doctor's voice blasted out into her ear.
“Dr. Jensen, we need to talk, please call me as soon as you can it's urgent.” his worried voice said.
As her phone was ringing her mind was running wild.
“Oh no, I have a disease, my arm is going to fall off, I need to starting taking medication.”
“Hello, Dr. Morgan's office, this is Sarah” a young voice said quickly and professionally.
“Hi, this is Kayla Jensen calling back for Dr. Morgan.” she responded.
As the doctor told her what it was she got relieved a bit, but also kept the worry she had from before. She didn't quite understand what he meant but got the jest of it. Something was wrong with her mind. He said that her brain showed abnormal functioning like it was thinking on it's own. He mentioned that one other case like this was documented but the patient disappeared into mid-air.
When Ben heard a knock on his apartment door he thought it was some little kid messing around again. When he opened the door and saw Shane standing there with a large vanilla folder, and tickets in his hand, he was surprised to say the least.
“Can I help you?” Ben asked with a nervous chuckle.
“As a matter of fact you can.” “Are you Ben
