I know the war officially ended in 2001 but in my book it was over by the time they debuted this logo. Anything during this era I’m not interested in. While s*** had already begun to hit the fan when they debuted this logo and the “war” wasnt really a war anymore, I still enjoy 1999 WCW until Russo took over. It’s silly and often makes no sense, but this era is still nostalgic to 9 year old me. It’s not the best game but WCW Mayhem got a ton of play out of me.

Anyone find the Hogan 3-pack in the McHenry County area? Target app has never shown it in stock and no luck at any stores.

This is why I’ll always find it funny when fans today try to argue that Cena and Roman are as popular as Hogan, Austin, and Rock. They couldn’t hold a candle compared to just how popular those three were during their primes.

I’m a fan of Scott’s entire career, but I always associate him with “Big Poppa Pump.” Him going after Kimberly Page and attacking guys with the lead pipe from ‘99/00 is my favorite era of his.

I believe that Booker would have been worse off coming in later. And this is going to sound contradictory, but had he come in in 2002, he'd have been at the exact same status on the card as he actually was in 2002 - IE mid-card at best, doing comedy skits and not really progressing up the card. He'd have been glass-ceilinged. The difference however is that the year prior in 2001, Booker benefitted from an upper card Invasion run which really showed people what he was capable of. Despite slipping down the card in 2002, that actually gave him more strings to his bow and showed another side to him. And Vince clearly loved him for it because he had a stellar first half of 2003, and again in 2006. Had he not had the 2001 run, he would not have progressed up the card in 2003 and who knows whether he'd have ended up after that. Great point about when he actually showed up right after the purchase of WCW. Booker himself mentioned this on the JBL show a few years ago that he chose the buyout right away as had he waited, he’d have been lost in the shuffle with other WCW names eventually showing up. He knew that he didn’t have the name power of Hogan, Sting, Flair, Steiner, Nash, Goldberg, ect… and decided joining right away would help him get a leg up on them.

On the “Last Nitro” podcast of Something to Wrestle With, Bruce Pritchard said that they had no clue when airing the show as to which talent would be included with the purchase and who were under the lucrative Time-Warner contracts. Bruce said they booked the show to send fans home happy and give them hope for the future.
What’s interesting with this is that they booked Booker T to win the WCW Title and walk out with the two top titles in the company despite not knowing whether they had him under contract or not. Booker has since commented that he was on a Time-Warner contract, and like DDP, decided to take a buyout in order to join the WWF right away. While he wasn’t the first “WCW star” to show up on WWF programming following the purchase, him attacking Austin at KOTR was seen as the bang that started the whole “Invasion” angle.
However, what happens if Booker didn’t take the buy-out? He left a ton of money on the table like DDP and could have easily sat at home with the two top belts from WCW. Does the Invasion storyline even come to be if Booker isn’t involved? The angle was already seen as a flop when it started due to the lack of star-power from the WCW side of things, and this would have only left them with DDP as a legit top-guy (and we all know how he was viewed by Vince and Taker).
Does the WWF still try to run the Invasion angle without Booker T and the top belts in the company? Do they just skip the Invasion angle and slowly introduce the performers without mentioning their WCW background?

Strange times indeed for Randy. Following late 1997 I just didn’t care much for Randy any longer. I wasn’t a fan of Sting playing fourth-wheel to the Hogan-Savage-Nash drama, and his appearances in 1999 were even more bizarre. I had no desire to see him feuding over the world title in 1999 either (as well as Hogan). That time should have been focused on Goldberg, Steiner, Booker, ect…but instead we got Hogan-Savage-Nash as the main feud once again.

Loving this B&R set and looking forward to the heavily rumored BF set next. I grew up with the original four movies so I’ll buy anything Todd puts out from them.

And speaking of Batman Forever… he has to do a set of figures from it seeing Kilmer was in that Ultimate boxed set. So I guess it’ll be Batman, Robin, Two-Face and Riddler. But will there be a BaF (if so who?) or something else? He will definitely get the re-use out of Kilmer. Every other figure in the set has double jobbed...he will too. Dunno who the baf would be...maybe there won't be one Nothing confirmed but one rumor is that the BAF will be Bane from B&R. Would make sense since there’s not really a character worthy of a BAF from BF so this would be a great way to get us Bane.

Coming up through the ring was a cool debut. Costing Mr McMahon the match by throwing Austin through the cage was stupid.
I’d have debuting him during the Rock/Mankind match where he costs Foley the title. Show still gets a cool debut but doesn’t look like an idiot giving Austin the win.
Then in the lead up to WM they could still tease tension between Rock, Big Show, and McMahon, with Vince favoring Show over the Rock as his next corporate champion. Also, don’t have Austin beat Show literally weeks after he debuted. Stupid as hell.
Then after Backlash you have a reason for Rock turning face as McMahon chose to go with Big Show, and you have Austin’s next feud already set to go.

I don't know if it was sabotaged, or they just didn't have chemistry. It's also possible for two people to work well together most of the time, but then have an off night. I have heard that the match hurt Scott's chances of moving into the upper echelon of the company at the time. I think it was JR who said that the office looked at the match and blamed Scott, saying that if he couldn't have a great match with Flair, then could he have one with others. Has Scott or Ric ever talked about the match in shoot interviews? Scott has said for years that Flair purposely sabatoged the match due to Flair’s feud with Jim Herd. Herd was reportedly big on Steiner being one of their top stars alongside Sting and Luger. This match was seen by many as a “prove it” situation for Scott, and a failure due to what we got from him and Flair. It’s why years later Scott would burry Flair in random promos when they weren’t even feuding (‘99/00 timeframe). Flair claimed he never purposely sabatoged the match and it was just a poor outing. Others have commented on it as well. Arn Anderson obviously takes Ric’s side and feels Steiner blaming Flair has to do with Flair being a booker around that time. Others have taken Scott’s side. And some are in the middle. The below link is to Lance Storm’s blog where he has an interesting take on things. www.stormwrestling.com/102814.html

The match that was suppose to make Scott Steiner one of the next top young-stars and put him on the level of Sting and Luger turned out to be a bad and awkward match. I watched this one again recently and it reminded me of how much of a letdown this match was. Steiner not getting to show off his unique moves. Flair cutting him off at the usual baby-face comeback spots. Just a weird one all around that has caused a lot of discussion with fans and those within the business.
Some say it was a lack of chemistry. Some say Ric sabotaged the match to stick it to higher ups who were trying to push him out even back in ‘91. My opinion: probably a mixture of both, but it’s not hard to see why Scott held so much resentment towards Flair for years after this. Their match didn’t follow the typical “heel-Flair” match that had made so many stars look great before Scott.
What’s everyone else’s opinion on this one? Did Flair sabotage the match? Was it just a lack of chemistry? Or was it something else?

Wouldn’t be shocked if we see him again in the MNW line. I can see them re-releasing his first figure in the red trunks with face-scan updates. They may even make a UE version.

Great figure...I'm glad to have it in my collection. In the minority but I've no interest in a white singlet Steiner. I need 2 more Scott figures... WM9 & 99/2000 era in black shorts. Throw in Final Nitro Scotty in the red biker shorts and I’m good with these as well.
