now that the excitement of last night has died down a little, at least in my house, i can spew my thoughts...
late August 2003 i get a phone call from a friend asking me if i wanted to go to a wrestling show in Massachusetts, he says the name of the promotion is "Ring of Honor" and they are awesome, so on September 6th, 2003 we headed on our way. ill never forget it, we sat in the bleachers of a gym, up at the back row to be able to see everything and not deal with awkward people. the show went on and got better with each match....guys like Colt Cabana, Homicide, Special K it was all amazing....one of the best wrestling shows ive ever seen. Then came the main event...some guy named "CM Punk" against some guy that EVERYONE knew by the name of Raven. They were calling it "The Clockwork Orange House of Fun Match" which to me was a little hacky but that was because i didnt know the history. the match was brutal of course, and although not the "best" match ever, it still left a mark....
Raven was in the ring and the lights went out...a new sound hit my ears...it was the opening to " Miseria Cantare - The Beginning" by AFI (although at the time i had NO idea what it was) dumdum dum dumdum dumdum dum dumdum
i got chills, the crowd rose to their feet, they bashed on their chairs, and on the metal guarrails that ROH is known for....the man was on his way out i had never seen a wrestling entrance (aside from the undertaker) that was like this. it was from that exact moment to the present (and future) that i became a fan of CM Punk
for the next 2 years every time ROH came to mass. i was there. We all were. We had a group that just loves the company as a whole. We saw guys like AJ Styles & Samoa Joe pave the way for Kevin Steen & The Necro Butcher. The stars have come and gone, new stars have been made. But no one has made a mark on me like Punk did.
I heard that Punk signed a WWE contract, and being a lifelong & diehard WWE fan I was very excited about this. Here was a guy i had been watching and enjoying for over 2 years in the best promotion besides the WWE, finally getting the "his chance" Even though I knew WWE's reputation for not caring or pushing the "little guys" it didnt matter. I knew Punk was something different, something they would like, something I hoped that the WWE "writers" would believe in.
He made his debut in ECW and we all know the rest...the undefeated streak, the "New Breed" heel turn (which i saw live in good ol' Providence) the ECW championship...MITB win....and i honestly thought I would never see the day that Punk would have become the World Heavyweight Champion on the WWE's "A" show. I put up with all the ridiculous "Punk is in the doghouse" rumors and it made me laugh every time. Apparently the "dog house" is a great place to be!
Haters can hate all they want, its your opinion and you are entitled to it. Thats all im going to say about that.
A person who goes through life doing what they need to do to survive can earn the biggest rewards. Punk started from the wrestling "bottom" just like everyone else. Just like Edge, just like Triple H, just like John Cena, just like Jeff Jarrett, just like Koko f'ing B. Ware...but each one of those guys has something different, something deserving of their own spot in wrestling history.
To Punks' real fans, like me, it was an awesome moment. A moment to never forget. I could break down the storyline and the reasons behind it in my eyes, but I can honestly say, i dont care...i dont care if he loses it in a month, i dont care if they fail to "push him right" (according to the IWC) i dont CARE....because last night, when his music hit i got the feeling like it was 2003 all over again... but this time...all i could think was HOLY ****....CM Punk is going to be at the top of the WWE....wow....and all i could say afterwards was: They did it! Holy ****, They Did It!
Congratulations to CM Punk...you've earned it. Now lets all sit back and see what he (& the WWE) is going to do with it.

Would have been much better if he did it at Night of Champions, or at least the end of Raw out of nowhere, to close the show.

JBL is a season veteren in WWE (not indies), a hated heel, already got the biggest title reign in like forever, and a not as talented wrestler (when it comes to technique.) JBL getting the title, would be kinda predictable and like, "What Ever" Punk getting the best title, on the best show, of the best company... pretty damn cool.

CM Punk is straight edge, so he won't be ing all the haters. Only certain straight-edged people dont . Straightedge is nothing but a bandwagon for most people. Only a few actually believe in it, others do it because they dont have any friends to party and cant get a girlfriend. And i will tell you, i am NOT straightedge

I admit it i didnt see punk in the indys, but on his ECW debut i was a fan instantly. He soon became my favourite and still is. When he one the ECW title, my Brother decided to spoil it for me, i didnt mark out that much. This morning he woke me up and said "Watch this, downstairs" so I come and see Batista Powerbombing Edge. The first thing i thought was cm punk would cash in and lose, This Fire Burns hits and CM Punk runs down to the ring I Marked out abit there, Then when he pinned Edge I Jumped of my seat and rewinded it to watch it again...
And Again

Meh. Punk is just a way to get the title on Raw, and I'm fine with that.

I MARKED OUT!!! to tell the truth I'm really happy that punk is the champion. i guess the WWE isn't as stupid as they seem. they knew that the fans wanted a change and they gave us a change by making Punk the champ. i like the whole karma of the story because edge won his titles that way (by pinning someone after they were beaten down). so i say bravo to WWE for doing this. I'm happy for Punk. And I'm happy that the WWE is finally starting to understand that fresh talent needs to be pushed. I'm also amped about Kofi being IC champ. things seem to be going in the right direction right now. but i was just thinking if anyone could answer this question. OK if Jeff Hardy hadn't been suspended before WM would he be the champ right now? i hope someone can answer that.
but anyway let me stop rambling on. I'm happy for Punk and I have become a fan of his over the past few months.

Punk with the WHC is something fresh and was definitely unexpected. I wanna see how far it goes, hopefully he gets a nice title reign.

I can honestly say I did not see that coming. When his music hit I was like "Holy crap". Literally...mom slapped me for that. But seriously, congrats to CM Punk. Lets see how long he can stay on top.

Let me just add on to what I did last night after thinking about it some more.
How some felt that Punk should not be doing Heel Tactics by cashing in after someone beats another man down. Well isn't that the point of MITB is that you can use it anytime anyplace? I dont call it a heel tactic its just that Edge is the only one at that point that did it. Its the beauty of MITB is that you never know when its going to be 'cashed in'.
I guess it does make for a better heel move but there isn't anything wrong with a face using the same tactic especially on the very man thats done it on two occasions himself. Brilliant move. I love it.
