Note: No promos for the show, mainly because my next two episodes of TV will be recaps of this/building towards Star Wars.
WCCW Presents Parade of Champions Week 2 May 1983:
Bill Mercer, Fritz Von Erich, and Marc Lowrance are all in the ring. They welcome you to the Parade of Champions. Bill Mercer runs down the card for the event before we go to our opening match.
Stampede Wrestling Exhibition - Dynamite Kid beat Davey Boy Smith with the Tombstone Piledriver. Good match to open up in front of a HUGE Texas crowd. Dynamite carried the mat wrestling of the match, and Davey Boy tried holding his own for the most part. The finish got a pretty big reaction from the crowd. Rating: C+
Mike Von Erich vs. Buddy Roberts went to a double countout. Both guys basically came in, got in the ring, and then went straight back out and brawled for the 20 count. Pretty bad stuff here. Rating: E+
WCCW Texas Heavyweight Championship: Kevin Von Erich beat Jimmy Garvin (w/Precious) with the Von Erich Claw to become the new champion. The crowd was red hot for this match. Kevin is really underrated, it seems like he gets less credit than he deserves. Garvin attacked Von Erich after the match, hitting his leg with a steel chair before security removed him. Kevin had to be helped out by Paramedics. Rating: B
Terry Gordy and Michael Hayes beat King Parsons and Chris Adams when Gordy used the DDT on Adams. It was pretty obvious that the Birds were going to win, but nobody foresaw this brutal of a match. Adams was busted open pretty badly from being slammed into the ring post before the match, but he carried on, being the highlight of the entire match. Rating: B-
Jumbo Tsuruta and Giant Baba beat Ted DiBiase and King Kong Bundy (w/Skandor Akbar) when Baba used the running neckbreaker drop on Bundy. Average match, not a lot was done to get the crowd into it. Jumbo and Bundy was just great, those two had a lot of chemistry. Baba stayed on the apron until the last 2 or 3 minutes. Rating: C-
WCCW American Heavyweight Championship: Kerry Von Erich beat Steve Williams (w/Skandor Akbar) when Kerry used the sunset flip on Williams. The ending was a little out there, most were expecting him to win with the Claw. But I guess it works, considering it was out of nowhere, and that Williams dominated this entire match. Doc just beat the hell out of Kerry, and there wasn't much Kerry could do but the sunset flip in this case. The crowd exploded for the ending. Rating: B-
NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Ric Flair vs. David Von Erich went to a 60-minute time limit draw. Never has there been a crowd this hot for a title match. David comes in as the crowd favorite, and Flair comes in the champ that everyone wants to see go down. And with every move from David, they get hotter and hotter. Flair locked in the Figure Four, and for a good 3 minutes, the crowd chanted "Go, David, Go!", until he finally reached the ropes. Flair looked shocked that David was able to get there. The last 20 seconds were centered around Flair desperately trying to save his title, but David wasn't having it, locking the champion in, and nearly making him pass out just as time expired. The crowd was near-riot as Flair made a quick escape with his championship to end the show.
