This got me thinking, and I figured why not ask. If it was not for his 16 World title reigns, would Ric Flair even be that well known? I mean seriously. Other than the '92 Rumble, Flair has done nothing but have those World title reigns. Maybe it is just my thinking but....

Flair has also won the US title many times put on many classic matches, drew in some major crowd numbers and was the leading member of the Horsemen. Also it's like saying what would hogan have if he never won the world title? A tag team title with Edge and being near the top during..erm Machomania?

Obviously not. In the wrestling world maybe as the greatest to never hold a world title, outside of the wrestling world? Not at all.

I know all that. But is seems like all anyone talks about is the 16 titles. And everyone has put on great matches but....idk It just seems like people would not know him if he did not have all those reigns. Especially for those who never watched WCW.

If you win the world title atleast 16 times, you are going to be remebered for that but if he didn't he would still be remembered much like Piper, Snake and Hall are now.

I guess the fact that he managed to get the world title 16 times would be enough to say he's good...

To truly appreciate and undertsand how great Ric Flair was, you have to:
- Have lived during the 80's and watched during Flair's prime - Watch a lot of 80's and 90's wrestling and try to understand why he was so great.
IMO Flair is that great.

Flair that very good.
Lots of people do know who he is and remember who was he.
And he also good wrestler at his age, especially take a suplex off from the top of ladder at MITB. But at his age?! That was good.

Not everyone can put on a great match. Most people can put on a good match, but Flair has had countless great ones all over the world.

If you don't think Ric Flair is great, then I will come to your house and put your grandmother in the figure four and turn off her Matlock re-runs.

Consider this...
In the WWF, Vince Jr. decided Hogan was the man and put the strap on him. During his initial run as champ, Hogan would be fed monster after monster and was always booked to look strong. Nothing wrong with that.
In the NWA (pre Ted Turner days), an actual booking committee decided on several different occasions to put the strap on Flair. He would then and make stars in different territories. Do you how big of deal the Kerry Von Erich/Ric Flair match was in Dallas? Or when Flair would defend in Japan. Also, he wasn't fed opponents. He made stars like Sting by making them like gold in their matches.

Ric Flair was the biggest name in wrestling before Hulk Hogan became the immoral one.
You become a superstar in this business for promos that you cut rather than what wrestling skill you have, and nobody was better at it than Ric Flair.

Ric Flair was NEVER that good. You mean when he put on a good match with someone as green as Luger he wasn't that good. When HE made Sting the star he became, he wasn't that good? When he got Steamboat over, he wasn't good? Flair was 16 time champion because he was good.' 16 times because he was popular not the other way around. You don't win the NWA title unless you are the best in the game. Flair could draw a crowd in BFE, that's a great worker.

When I think of Flair, I think of all those Flair-Steamboat classic matches. It's sad that alot of people think Flair isn't that great because of the last few years. You really have to watch his 80's Horsemen promo's and matches to really appreciate what Flair is and what he has meant to the wrestling business in general.

This is an odd thread. Just odd. I mean, the reason it's mentioned that he's a 16 time world champion a lot is because he's coming towards the end of a long career and announcers etc want to put over his main accomplishments. His main accomplishments being that he was World Champion 16 friggin' times! It's mentioned so much because it emphasizes just how legendary Flair is.
So, the question in the title of your thread 'Is Flair really that good?' is pointless because as you point out yourself, he is constantly put over as a 16 time world champion. I think it's safe to say that if your given a world championship that many times that your pretty damn special.
