With head of merchandising Dan Massey leaving, do you think there will be a positive effect, a negative effect, or no effect on the AEW Jazwares line? I have had a suspicion that the issues with the line do not fall squarely on the feet of Jazwares. They say it takes two to tango afterall. With news circulating about internal issues regarding the merchandise as a whole, what effect will Dana Massey's leaving have on the line?

Yes I understand, but what I think is it is not totally Jazwares fault. I get that feeling at least. They can only work with what they are given by the licensor and what the liscensor whats to do and what they will approve. I am not exactly sure how the structure on the liscensing and merchandising department of AEW works, but I get the impression that it was quite unorganized. I am unsure though. That is just my opinion. I would like to see how all of this plays out, and if there is any marked improvement by bringing in a professional to work as the head of merchandising in AEW. It is impossible to know and once again pure speculation. It also makes sense in a way why exclusives where the only new figures reliably comming out, because that is all based on retail contracts that absolutely muat be met. My guess. I am just slightly optimistic and I would love to hear other's thoughts on the subject.

From what I understood Dana’s job was mostly shirt and poster designs. Nothing to do with Jazwares.

Honestly, 2024 feels like jazwares last chance. This line feels dead. If the vault and new sets don't bring in new people. I can't see aew figures being carried anywhere but ringside. They tried to revive the line last year with new sets for a couple months. That hype is gone you can't entirely blamed jazwares the show is barely hot with no new eyes watching the product. It's going to be harder to justify some parent buying an elite dom, seth rollins vs a darby allin or orange cassidy. While both groups are fantastic wrestlers in there own right. WWE is more mainstream and people will recognize there superstars over aew wreslers. I honestly hope aew jumps back with huge bang in 2024. It's sad to see where the line has gone since 2020. Figures would sellout almost immediately on ringside in pre-order. Now sets sit on pre order 1 for the entire duration until release.

Feel bad about this line, but it really sputtered out. I was hoping they could get something going but it's hopeless. They had some creative ideas early on, but with the company not as popular to carry over to the toy line it does feel a lot like Jakks TNA

At this point I don't really know how you even get this line back on track from a mainstream retail perspective. The waves they've announced have them so far behind that they'd basically have to skip a year+ of the product to get current. MJF had a year reign without even having his figures on shelves.
It doesn't help that many of the bigger names haven't done a lot to change up their look since the company launched. Darby, OC, Mox, and to a lesser extent Jericho figures haven't really evolved much for the duration of the line. And even for someone like the Bucks, the attire choices have been underwhelming.
The product as a whole has lost a lot of its early buzz and as much as I'd love to see Jazwares find their footing, I think that's a hail mary at this point.

I don’t think Dana leaving has any effect on figures.
I hope this line continues. While there have been some misses, I do enjoy most of their figures, and there’s a lot of names and gears I’d love to see in figure form. I still enjoy the shows a lot more than any other company, so I’d love to get more.
Totally agree some attire and character options have been odd, but the big thing is getting the figures. I don’t care if they become exclusive or not, I just want them to release lines regularly. Many months will go by without any releases, announcements, etc. and the product is way behind. The last Hangman in ring gear was from near the end of his tag run with Omega, champion MJF is nowhere to be found, Swerve is a few months out from getting a very outdated look from his early days in the company, Sting wrestled in a singlet in AEW 2.5 years ago and we still haven’t gotten that look, etc.
Jeremy even mentioned something AEW figure related was coming a few weeks ago and there was literally no follow up. It’s hard to stay engaged but I do enjoy most of the figures I get. All of his social media presence and his influence on Chase figures have only lessened my interest in the product.

I highly doubt she had anything to do with figures. Can't believe she'd have the time to deal with that trying to keep a whole 3 shirts at the lone merch stand at shows.

Whenever I see photos like this, I always cock my head a bit. At the very least, it’s maybe a regional thing? I’ve been to six AEW shows in the last three years, and all of them had more merch than that, but they were all in the NY/NJ area which is likely a big market for them. Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely unacceptable for any market to have as little merch as above (if that really is a picture of the main merch stand and not something ancillary at the venue) but it’s definitely not the case for every AEW show.

You can buy that whole stand with $895. Are Kenny Omega and MJF not moving merch?

I’ve been to 4 Dynamites and there’s only ever been one small merch stand in the whole venue. Long lines for nothing really. They would have generic AEW merch and signed figures. Not any wrestler shirts that I can remember.

This is basically what it has looked like every AEW show that I have gone to. They sell a lot of merchandise, the line is always crazy long. I always get what I'm looking for though, I feel like they bring a lot of stuff so everything doesn't sell out and fans are happy.

That’s at least 3x more stuff than they’ve brought to any KC Dynamite. Like I said, AEW branded pullovers/thirts, signed figures, maybe the belt.

This photo is from the second day of the 2021 All Out Fan Fest, not a recent live show. Stuff was picked over the first day. While they definitely weren't prepared, the photo isn't indicative of the current setup at shows. Very misleading without some context.
