Jay was a guy who had a sh** mindset, changed it and by all accounts became a better person through it. The guy was so good in the ring. You can’t talk about the best tag teams of all time without mentioning the Briscoes. Their match with FTR in Dallas is honestly my favorite tag match I’ve ever got to see in person. This is such a ing bummer. That’s way too young to go. It’s such a shame he and Mark never got to show what they had in the big leagues, but they left a fantastic catalog regardless. Rest in Power, Jay. Effy wrote some really kind words about what a great guy he turned into. Really shows how a person raised with certain values can change later in life. Too bad Warner Bros didn't seem to care about that. They should have been tearing it up in AEW.
RIP Jay.

Genuinely devastating. I didn't watch much of the early days of the Briscoes but when I got into ROH and New Japan, The Briscoes were still a huge deal and even now that they still are, I'm a big fan of them and think they're one of the great tag teams of the past two decades. The feud with FTR recently has been THE highlight and base of the rebooted ROH and credit goes out to him and I've also been a big fan of their work in Impact recently. Point is, I've been a fan.
It's hard to say anything about the situation itself other than that I send my best wishes to his family and friends after the news, it's not easy to swallow this at all.

Just found out that at least two of his kids were in the car too. His wife posted, asking everyone to pray for their daughter Gracie who is having surgery, and Jayleigh who has some serious injuries, but is resting. The surgery for Gracie sounds serious as the quote in her statement is "pray for her precious legs to move again."

Found this, of the Deleware State Police's statement on the accident. Sounds like even if Jay has been wearing his seatbelt he still wouldn't have made it.
State Police Investigating Two-Vehicle Fatal Accident
The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred in Laurel late yesterday afternoon that resulted in the deaths of two people.
On January 17, 2023, at approximately 5:09 p.m., a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was traveling westbound on Laurel Road just west of Goose Nest Road. At the same time, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 was traveling eastbound on Laurel Road in the same vicinity. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Silverado 1500 pickup truck failed to remain in her lane, crossed the center line, and entered the eastbound lane of Laurel Road, directly into the path of the Silverado 2500. This resulted in a head-on collision between the two pickup trucks in the eastbound lane.
The driver of the Silverado 1500, identified as 27-year-old Lillyanne Ternahan of Frankford, Delaware, was wearing her seatbelt. The driver of the Silverado 2500, identified as 38-year-old Jamin Pugh of Laurel, Delaware, was not wearing his seatbelt. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers in Pugh’s pickup truck, identified as his 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old daughter, were both properly restrained. Both girls were taken by ambulance to an area hospital and were admitted in critical condition.
Alcohol involvement in this crash is unknown. No other vehicles were involved in this collision. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Sergeant J. Burns by calling 302-703-3269. Information may also be provided by sending a Private Facebook Message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
If you or someone you know is a victim or witness of a crime or have lost a loved one to a sudden death and need assistance, the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit / Delaware Victim Center is available to offer you support and resources 24 hours a day through a toll-free hotline at 1-800-VICTIM-1 (1-800-842-8461). You may also email the Victim Services Unit at DSP_VictimServicesMail@delaware.gov.

Kevin Owens talks about Jay's loss:
“I spent hours reading what people had to say about Jamin last night. I watched some of our matches together. I went back and read our last texts to each other. I am so heartbroken for his family.
Every single one of them that I met over the years, and I met a lot of them because they all stuck together like glue, all special human beings that would give you the shirt off their back in a heartbeat if you needed it. That’s who Jamin was, too.
There are a few people in this industry that I consider pillars of my own career. People I truly feel I would not be where I am today had I not encountered them. Jay and Mark Briscoe are two of those pillars.
In 2007, they had the opportunity to make or break two Canadian guys that were trying to put themselves on the map on the US indie scene. I remember walking up to Jay that afternoon before our match and asking what he wanted to do…never met him before… first interaction we ever had… he heard my question, looked at me and with a huge smile across his face, said “Well s**t, man… let’s go out there and f***ing kill it!” So we did. We did that night and we did many times after that. Each match I had with them stands out in my memory among the thousands of matches I’ve had in my career because working with the Briscoes was special, every single time.
Having the honor of being in the ring with Jay and his entire family as they celebrated after he beat me for the ROH title is my favorite moment of my independent career, bar none. It was special for all of them, for the crowd there that night, for everyone in the locker room and for me because Jay was special.
I didn’t get to see Jamin much after I went to WWE in 2014. In fact, I think we only saw each other once but it was like no time had passed at all. He came to see a WWE show and of course, he had his whole family with him. He was so excited and proud to tell me about everything his kids and his wife were up to and how great they were doing. He loved his family with everything he had… It was amazing to see them all.
We didn’t keep in touch very often but every time we did, it absolutely made my day. Getting a text message from him was always like a giant ray of sunshine.
I’m so thankful that I got to have him in my life. I’m so thankful for the laughs and the memories. Just so thankful to have known him. I’m a better person for having had the chance to.
My heart goes out to Ashley and the kids, to Mark and his parents, and to everyone else that knew and loved him. And that’s a lot of f***ing people.
Because Jay was special.”
And Seth Rollins' thoughts:
“Being in the ring with Jay Briscoe got me my first ROH contract. He and Mark being so selfless helped Jimmy [Jacobs] and I find our footing as AOTF [Age of the Fall tag team]. Without him, I don’t know if Tyler Black could ever have been Seth Rollins. After I signed with WWE, Jay would come to the Salisbury house shows to drink beer and to hoot and holler. He loved the business and he was a great human and friend. Bigger than that he was an absolutely adoring father and husband. He had a twinkle in his eye and hug waiting for me no matter how long we went without seeing each other. I’m crushed knowing that warmth is gone. My thoughts are with his family and friends. He was special.”

Really sad news to hear,The Briscoes leave a tag team legacy that rivals anyones.I would say their a top 4 tag team in the last 20 years and all time top 10.They had 2 decades where they produced high quality matches against the likes AOF,Kings of Wrestling,Steen & Generico,WGTT,The Hardy Boyz,The Young Bucks...ect and just now had probably their most acclaimed series of matches against FTR.Besides that Jay had some bangers during his two world title runs.
Such a said day losing half if what most of us feel is the heart and soul of ROH.I hope both of his daughters pull through and end up okay, also really worried about Mark Briscoe. They where so close I just know what he's going to do inside and outside of the ring.

Some positive news with Jay's daughters, just saw that his daughter Gracie has regained feeling in her legs. She can also make some small movements with her legs. His daughter Jayleigh was fitted with a back brace and was able to sit up on the side of the bed with help from staff. It's small news for those poor girls, but at least it's news in the right direction. It's going to be a long road for those poor girls, but hopefully they eventually make full physical recovers. Unfortunately the mental recovery could take a lot longer.

Heard one of those crazy what ifs, in regards to Jay, that really has stuck with me. It was from Jim Cornette talking about his passing, and his co-host Brian Last brought it up. He said, he hates to even think about it, but what if, whoever this a-hole executive that had it out for Jay didn't prevent him from being on TV. There would have been a possibility that the Briscoes may have been on Dynamite, and maybe he's not on the road on the day that accident happened. Like I said, it's sucks to think about but it is a food for thought.
