Did this line die?

Guess I'm a bit late to the party, but is the line finally dead?
I was a big collector from 02-2012, but then I moved to an area where I where no stores carried the figures, and my collecting sort of died cold turkey. I've been on a nostalgia kick recently, and started buying some pieces that I had missed out on over the years. But I was surprised to see that the line seemed to lose steam shortly after I stopped collecting. I'm still a total sucker for the HOF and retro figures.

Pretty sure it is. That’s why I un-stickied it. It was 8 or 9 months since anyone had last posted in it.

Probably?
Looks like they released some baseball figures last year that I never saw anywhere at retail, but they haven't done a football or basketball set since 2018.
Tord McFrickstick doesn't usually announce when stuff is done though, he just stops making the figures.

As a Steelers fan, the line treated me well. As a Pirates fan, not so much. But for the price point and detail, I'd put some of those early waves up against anything any toy company has done. It's a shame that it died a slow death. Then again, that's probably the longest Todd has maintained attention on any one thing in his life.

I can't believe it lasted almost 20 years. I don't really have any "regrets" aside from buying too much crap and not having enough room to display it all properly, but my one collecting bonehead move was putting a no helmet figure back on the shelf at Walmart because I didn't know what it was and thought it was a production error. But oh the controversies: Changing from the solid to hollow bases; so-and-so team/player not getting a figure; first chase and then collector level figures; warped face guards/shields/masks; certain figures being out of scale; distribution problems; scalpers; stories about people running through TRU when they opened to try to get to the fresh case...you know, now that I think of it, it's a lot like seeing what's posted on the Mattel board right now in regards to WWE figures.

My "regrets" mostly have to do with who/what never got made, rather than what I bought. I mostly avoided the flash-in-the-pan types, fortunately. And I regret passing on a Pippen for $5 and the Rice/Deion 2-pack for $25. And I remember passing on the sepia Babe Ruth because I just wanted a regular figure. But for the most part I'm pleasantly surprised how cheap I'm adding some of the figures I never found. But man...I'm bummed out by some of the figures we never got. A proper McGwire, "the swing" Griffey, 90's Ripken.

Yeah I got the Kendall. I think he’s in a throwing pose. Was Bonds a chase? because I never saw a Pirates version on the pegs. Just the Giants.

Kendall had a chase (home and away), but it looks like he was a regular figure in the wave. Bonds was a surprise chase that they didn't announce until people started finding them in stores. But man...I'm bummed out by some of the figures we never got. A proper McGwire, "the swing" Griffey, 90's Ripken. My biggest want was Will Clark.

One of my favorite figures in my collection is a McFarlane Emmitt Smith without helmet. I loved the NFL figures the only thing I didn't like about them was I bought way to many.

I'm amazed how little value these figures have. Especially with the rise of all collectibles in other lines, these are sooooo cheap on Ebay. I had a few I was looking to put up and it seems almost pointless. Why are these not worth anything?

I didn't know about the controversies with this line so I'm going to have to hunt down the stories on this. I was never a hardcore collector of this line, if I happened to see someone in the stores that I liked I probably bought them. I was a bigger fan of college football and I'm a fan of the Red Sox and Cowboys so I have a few of the MLB side and only a handful of NFL. I have a few of the 12" NFLers. Almost all of it is put away aside from a Pedro Martinez that I have out. I think the last time I bought anything was 2012ish. Does anyone know a good place for a checklist on these? I'm curious to see who got figures. My biggest MLB want was Bo Jackson. The NFL people that I liked I'm pretty sure got figures, well maybe not Vinny Testaverde or Bernie Kosar. College is my deepest list of wants.

I still have a ton of these at my parents' place. Like some others have said, I bought enough that it's a regret (a small one) because I was so big time into them.
My biggest regret is finding out that Dominik Hasek wouldn't approve a figure of himself in his Buffalo Sabres uniform. My favorite all time, and he denied us. Crushing.
It infuriated me the lack of diversity in Todd's picks (at the time). I bought so many figures and didn't get an official Buffalo Sabres figure until Ryan Miller. My best friend, who only collected a few, had like 10 or 15 Red Wings figures on his wall.
As for one controversy, I remember someone on Todd's staff who was active on the Spawn.com message board being a huge Steelers fan who constantly justified advocating Todd for Steelers figures. Also infuriating at the time, mostly because he thought himself a celebrity and showed little regard for the fans of small market teams who got no respect (again, just how it seemed to my younger self).
I will say Todd showed some much-appreciated love for my teams eventually. No Bengals Legends, but he's made multiple AJ Green figures, Andy Dalton, and Giovani Bernard in the last five or 10 years after only doing two in the first decade or more. For Sabres players, he did another Ryan Miller and a Gilbert Perreault because he was a fan of Gilbert growing up. I even found the chase on the pegs at Toys R Us way back then. It's the only chase representing one of my favorite teams I found in stores.

For SportsPicks, it was just significant or fan favorite. As far as true NFL legends, Anthony Muñoz is the best left tackle in the history of the NFL (and in the Hall). Boomer Esiason was a league MVP. Ken Anderson might be the best QB not in the Hall of Fame. Then there's a guy like Corey Dillon or Ken Riley. And beyond that, there's Paul Brown. You're clever, though. Original, too.
