Simple but curious question. What’s the game you’ve purchased the most times, in one form or another?
Sonic 2 (which is not my answer) is what spurred the thought. Between the 16bit, 32bit, handheld, mobile, and Sega/Sonic collection sets, it’s been released dozens and dozens of times. You could say the same with Mario games, from NES to All Stars to virtual consoles and mini consoles.
Then you have remastered versions of games which, in my opinion, should count if it’s the same base game as before just smoother look or performance. Or just rereleases on new consoles as their own game.
My answer is actually my favorite game of all time, Portal 2. I’ve bought it physical 4 times for two different consoles, plus virtually on both consoles, once physical for PC, and then finally on Steam.
And if the gaming gods ever bless me with a release on the Switch so I can play it handheld, just take my money now.
So how about y’all?

I think it’s a tie between Resident Evil 4 and GTA:SA. I had both on the PS2, Xbox 360 and Xbox one.

Pokemon Heartgold. I've bought and sold it like 10 times. It holds its value so you always get good money for it, but I sometimes get the urge to play it again even though I have Gold/Silver/Crystal downloaded on my 3DS. I don't know why I keep selling it and buying it back but sometimes needs must and I need the money haha.

I love the game too but never had a real interest in playing it on a DS.

Probably GTA V, Xbox 360 (Collectors edition), Xbox One, PS3, and PC twice (bought for a friend).
San Andreas is a close second with PC, Xbox 360, PS2, and mobile.

Rule of Rose. I once owned 25 copies of the game at one time. I was on a quest to own every copy of the game so I bought it every time I saw it if it was under $100.

I think Final Fantasy X three times. Had it on the PS2 originally as a kid, then got the remastered version when it came out on Switch. Then because I hardly ever play the Switch I picked it up on Xbox One in a half price sale. Still haven't played that one yet but at least it's there for when I do.

I’m two copies into the Crash Remaster (Along with the originals for PS1) for the same reason.

I think it would probably be Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Between the originals on the Genesis, the collection on PC from then90s, and the countless compilations I've bought that game probably half a dozen times or at least close to it.

Probably just GTA V on PS3/4 thinking about it. Don't think I'll bother for the PS5 unless they introduce something worthwhile.

GTA V for sure.
PS3 in 2013, PS4 in 2014 and Xbox One in 2018. I'm adamant that I won't buy it again on the Series X - but we'll see.

If we’re talking specific games, I think my answer would be GTA 3 and GTA V. Don’t remember what happened to the GTA 3 I had, but I vaguely remember buying a second one on PS2. GTA V I have for 360 and XB1.
Much like PJ I have countless Madden and WWE games from buying the new releases every year as well.
