I hate that Championship games get decided in a skills competition, but it is what it is.
WHAT A MOMENT, WHAT A STORY! Well worth staying up until 2:00 in the morning for.
Although from what I’m reading and seeing, it appears the attendance and interest for the Olympics this year are very low.

Although from what I’m reading and seeing, it appears the attendance and interest for the Olympics this year are very low. Grats to the US women although I agree about the skills competition comment. Championship games should just play until there is a winner. Sudden death OT is the highest form of sports drama. Leave shoot outs to qualifiers and regular season games. From a US viewer perspective, I blame the time difference that means most people can't watch events live, the lack of gold medal winning US performances that make the homers turn to Celebrity Big Brother, and the major network coverage being obsessed with featuring figure skating and ice dancing in prime time. I mean, ice dancing? It isn't even a sport. It's right in the name: DANCING. This is the Olympics, not Dancing with the Stars. At least for the Summer olympics you get a decent mix of swimming and track & field with the gymnastics on prime time. Oh well. I enjoyed what I caught of the snowboarding, skiing, speed skating, sledding, and even the biathlon events - what a finish to the men's simultaneous start event. The Frenchman won the gold by a freakin' toenail.

My favorite event is ice skating. No shame. By the sixth straight night of figure skating I'm ready to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon. No shame.

I stayed up til 4am last night because I got so into the ski halfpipe final that I needed to see how it ended. Insane tricks and even crazier crashes as they wiped out on the lip of the pipe. JR would be all like "Bah God he's been broken in half!"
I've loved the commentary on the trick filled ski/snowboard events because they're so funny and they're helped out by a British snowboarder when he's not in competition and he goes crazy when big things happen. They were talking about a Russian snowboarder by the name of Valeriya Demidova and he's like "that's the coolest name EVER!" That name also gave me the line of the games for me when she was referred to as "Valeriyan Russian Steel." I bet every GoT fan watching marked out over that.

U.S. Women won the gold in hockey.
Men's hockey final is Germany vs Russia.
Is there panic and rioting in Canada today?

U.S. Women won the gold in hockey. Men's hockey final is Germany vs Russia. Is there panic and rioting in Canada today? Canada is going crazy. Some guy in a bar got worked up with the men's hockey team got beat and overturned a table. He apologized afterwards, but still... It was the most intense show of anger in recent Canadian memory. Seriously though... I can't imagine the Canadian Olympics officials are too happy right now. Canadian athletes have done great overall in these Olympics, but if you asked most Canadians, there's five gold medals they want above all others. The two hockey tournaments and the three awarded in curling (which, believe it or not, is just as, if not maybe even more popular than hockey across Canada). The Canadian team did win the gold in Mixed Doubles Curling, but they women's team didn't even make the medal round in their tournament and the men's team can do no better than a bronze. Nothing wrong with a silver medal in women's hockey, but Canada was definitely expecting the gold after having won it in the past four Olympics. Then the men's hockey team getting beat by Germany... A silver, a gold, and possibly two bronze medals in the two most popular sports in Canada is pretty darn good really, but you've got to think there's some disappointment and shock when they were basically expecting five gold medals.

Men's curling was impressive. Thunder has to be super proud.
