image url uploadI am sick as a dog today and went to the doctors. I had some time to kill before I could get my perscription so I stopped by my local Toys R Us. The last time I was there they had pieces of Basic series 60 the week before. But they had none of the shelf warmers like Cena and Orton which I thought was weird. So when I stopped in today same thing they had a Randy Orton. So I looked around to make sure I wasn't missing a display and I noticed in their stock room they had a bunch of series 60. (Their stock room is always wide open) So I asked an employee there if they could grab the extras I saw so I could buy a few. She then got really short with me and said "No what we have out there is all we have". I said "Well I just walked buy your stock room and I noticed them sitting there" she then got more annoyed and said she knew everything that was back there...I pressed on asking to see them and she said "they are probably just doubles anyways" and again I said well that's ok I just want to see who you have. She paged a guy to take them out for me. He was super helpful and I walked away with a Kilisto. I just couldn't believe how rude she was. I have shopped there since I was a child and everyone who works there has always been nice. But boy when I asked about those figures she got mad.

I tend to avoid asking women to get toys from the backroom, especially if they're overweight. Was she chubby?

She was probably annoyed that you were sick as a dog and decided to go to a toy store.

Perhaps Toys R Us employees are just angry because of the unrealistic amount of pressure put on them to sell credit cards when people really just want toys? No, really. People who are actually knowledgeable about the products they sell there are ushered out by those who can actually sell the credit cards to people (which doesn't happen a lot, hence why TRU has a terrible turnover rate) when in reality they should hire people who know about the different products they sell and not worry about the credit card scams as much. When I worked at KB Toys, man, I could tell you if I had a Matt Hardy figure without even looking. They just don't make toy stores like they used to...

I gave up asking employees for stuff. I love when they ask if you need help and you say yeah can you check if you have any of whatever in the back and they say whatever we have is out. Yeah ok. You just have a big whole back room for emptiness and parties then?

I remember the K-B Toy Works here in town fondly. They always stocked new stuff on Thursdays ( many a Thursday payday was spent there buying Jakks figures!) , could tell you if they actually had something in stock, and would go to the back to bring out a new case if you were looking for something not on the pegs, no questions asked. I miss that place SO damn much!

You just have a big whole back room for emptiness and parties then? 2 experiences stand out to me... - back in 1997, they were getting in this exclusive Star Wars AT-AT Walker. Heard they were starting to be found, so I called the nearest one to me. They had me on hold for a few minutes while they looked, said they didn't have any in stock yet. Called a second one, same story. Third one I called in Allentown, PA. I barely got the words out of my mouth before the guy said nope, they don't carry that item, and hung up. It smelled fishy to me. So I took the chance and drove the hour (one way) to their store. Sure enough, 7 of them on the shelf!! - when the Watchmen movie came out, they were carrying an exclusive Unmasked Rorschach figure. Called to see if they had it - yep, computer lists 24 in stock! Excellent! Ran right up there (about a half hour one way) only to find ... nothing on the pegs. Asked at the service desk, again the system showed 24 in stock. She went back into the storeroom for a few minutes, only to come back out and tell me that they must be back there somewhere, but they can't look for them, come back another day. And she went back to work. I bitched that it was a bit of a drive for me,and I only came because they said they did have it, but to no avail.

I don't think I would of. Sucks the bitch wouldn't keep looking or have someone else look. One time at Toys R Us the lady printed me a list of what stores had how many cases. I was looking for NFL McFarlane. I drove to this one TRU and the guy went in the back and brought me out like 3 cases to go through. Couldn't of been nicer. I got to get a crack at the chase figures and everything.

Especially like you said when you could just waste a day and not worry Oh,yeah. I'd always be going looking for stuff, sometimes just for the hell of it. Going to towns I was never in before, with the promise/hope of some phantom toy I wanted. I know it's easier/cheaper the way we do it now, but I do miss those days sometimes. Going hunting in the morning, be back by late afternoon, and either go party with my friends, or if it was a wrestling night crash at someone's place, order food, and drink a ton of beer.

I really feel like most people just work there to work there. I ended up filing a complaint. I worked in retail and I know we all have bad days but I really didn't feel like I deserved the amount of sass I got. I could see if I was a high maintenance customer but I am not. I can't even remember the last time I inquired about what they had in the back. I have also sent a lot of e-mails in the past about how great the store is.

I worked at TRU for two years and I can't tell you how annoying some customers can be. ESPECIALLY when it came to those God awful McFarlane NFL figures. And it wouldn't be a kid looking for them. I had no problems helping a child out. It was always the pervy dudes with a thinning hairline and pedo-stache that NEEDED those NFL figures. I met some good people through TRU as far as clientele. But the weird most definitely outweighed the good.
Also, why in the hell did you go to a toy store if you were sick as a dog?
Most of this is a lighthearted jab at you. But those NFL collecting idiots can rot in their exclusive chase variant Hell.

Tru has mostly been unhelpful. One women helped me out once by bringing stock from back. target in recent years have been very helpful...looking stuff up, going to the stock room, opening boxes on the floor. Walmart, I usually don't even bother because half the people there are either on their break or can't help you because it's not their department so they call someone from that department to assist you and surprise surprise you find out after 40 minutes of waiting, that, they're on their break too. You think...hey...let me ask this manager walking by and you get without hesitation..."all we have is on the floor"....as they continue to walk by and tell the employees standing around to go take their break! Gaaaah! I'd be best off just to grab a blue vest off the floor and go back and help myself.

Employees are almost always just doing what they are told to do. If management says "Tell anyone asking for specific items that everything is already on the shelves.", then most will do just that.
They are paid to do a job, what their managers / supervisors tell them to do, not cater to the individual whims of every customer that comes in.
