Joe M. CM Poor how you feelin? You're not the only OG here anymore. That's never been the hook upon which I hang my hat, and I get to go f*ck around in a ring tomorrow for a few hours, so....yeah. Pretty good, thanks for asking. Haha. True that.

With all due respect to Stan McMann, Big is far and away my favorite comedic character.

I've got some pretty big gaps in my career, so it's entirely possible I either know exactly who you are and don't realize it, or the timing simply never added up. Either case is just as likely. I've killed a LOT of brain cells over the years.

You know, usually my depressive episodes trigger writing. This is a weird experience drawing such a blank.

Hey guys. Can anyone tell me about some of Mexico's pop culture and some mythical creatures / folk stories that originated from there? It might help with the E-Fed character i'm thinking of.
Thanks.

I'll give you some advice that might seem a bit roadblockish, but it's not meant to come off that way at all, so just bear with me....but if you're that unfamiliar with it, consider picking a different basis for your character. Nothing comes off more glaringly obvious than when somebody is writing something they don't quite know - they either use television tropes that make it come off hokey and scripted, or they go waaaayy too deep on unveiled references they make it plainly clear that they're overcompensating. When in doubt, especially when you're just getting started, your best bet would be to create a character that delves into places and people and experiences that you know and have a great deal of familiarity with. Even if you have to dial up certain elements to 11 to make them a bit more unique or fascinating, a basis that you're comfortable with will make navigating your way around this game of ours all the easier.

Hey guys. Can anyone tell me about some of Mexico's pop culture and some mythical creatures / folk stories that originated from there? It might help with the E-Fed character i'm thinking of. Thanks. Yeah, I'm with Brennan on this one. You're free to do as you please, obviously, but I would advise you stick with what you know at first. The fun thing about Rping being in an efed is character development. As time goes on and you get comfortable with what you know, then you can start adding more depth and stuff in. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is your character. Think of them as a living, breathing thing in a way. Think of yourself. Are you the same person you were five years ago? Probably not. You've likely strengthened some positive characteristics and incorporated new things into your life as time has gone on and you've learned. Picture that for your character, just with an accelerated clock. Months over years. When I started writing here, what I knew was the exile I felt from depression, death of someone close, and seeing the bad side of alcoholism. So my character started off as a loner, father of a deceased daughter who was a borderline alcoholic. As time went on, my character evolved. I fell in love personally, and slowly incorporated compassion and empathy to my character. I grew up religious personally, but eventually started rebelling against the church's opinions. As a result, my character started focusing more on the meaning of life, and what a man should fight for. These changes took years to happen. I'm not saying it'll take that long for you, but it's about taking what you know, turning it up to eleven like Brennan said, and just adding ish that makes sense as you, personally, grow as a writer and as a person. CM Poor will tell you how much he hates my original character, Shawn Malakai. But he read much of my work from the middle of my run with him up to my final RP as him before I switched characters. And while I can't speak for him, even if he hates Malakai, he should be hard pressed to say he didn't see growth in character both in Malakai and in myself out of character in our interactions. And if that is the case, like I think it is, we've both just proved this point even more. By all means, you do you boo. But if you want to get the most out of this in all aspects, from writing, entertainment and success (as this is a game after all), play to your strengths. You have them, even if you're the type of person who isn't sure what they are or not. I dunno.
