By being a huge ing draw. Besides it's probably a deal he made with the old guard. I love RVD, but with the way he was used in his returns , and the fact that he said himself he isn't close with HHH , I'm curious as to how he was able to get such a lucrative deal (that I'm sure tons of guys would die to have ) Like I said, he's a draw. RVD is one of those guys that will probably always get a huge pop no matter how long he's been gone and will also probably always be a huge merchandise seller. He was on (warning cheap plug imminent) SiriusXM's Busted Open (@bustedopennation) somewhat recently and said that the way they mishandled him the last time is why he is in no hurry to go back. He's making big money in the indies, when he chooses to work, and he's content for now. He says he doesn't keep up with the product anymore. If anything, he might be another one that just pops up at non-televised events.

Didn't he job to Bo Dallas last summer? His first run when he came back wasn't too bad but then his post WrestleMania 30 run was pretty forgettable, and he never won.

I'd love to see RVD again, and can't wait until he returns to WWE.

The deal came about because WWE was happy with how the Brock thing was working out, and decided to try a similarly unconventional deal with someone a few rungs below Brock. RVD was hugely popular at one point, and he had a good six-year run. The ECW link always ensures he's a fave with particular groups of fans, and he did quite well on merch for a while. It's just disappointing how badly they blew his comebacks, especially the last one. He just had pointless filler match after pointless filler match. They really should have decided one or two guys they wanted him to put over, and built him -- and the storyline -- so that when he eventually lost to those guys, it mattered. Cesaro as the Heyman guy would have been a good candidate, because there's so much backstory with RVD and Heyman. It could've been a really strong upper midcard feud, but meh. Then there's Barrett, Rusev, Wyatt, Rollins... Hell, even try and do something with Heath Slater. But there was just no real storyline there at all and Van Dam became just another midcarder on the roster.

his heart clearly hasn't really been in it since even before his tna run. he's let himself lose a bit of shape and just goes through the motions and i can't say i blame him, wrestling has become so cookie-cutter over time that i don't even know how a guy with his attitude would sustain in a corporate atmosphere. it's still one of my personal opinions that i hold that rvd is one of the most unrealized potentials in pro wrestling history. if wwe had taken the ball and ran with him and he hadn't of ed it up, i could see him as becoming an icon like steve austin, hulk hogan, etc...his character is so unique. i also consider him the best athlete in the history of pro wrestling...shawn michaels can forget it.

As I said earlier, I can't blame WWE for not going "all-in" on RVD's sporadic returns. No point in building up a guy and giving him big wins if he is leaving in 3 months. His name value isn't as big as Brock or the Rock. Hell not even as big as Jericho's. IMO he's best used to come in, get some occasional wins, but mostly put over younger talent.
That's why I say let him come back and do a 3 month run in NXT. He could feud with Balor, Zayn, Breeze, Joe, & Itami. Maybe even team him up with Rhyno for a mini ECW reunion.

The last thing I remember Van Dam doing was the thing with Ricardo Rodriguez....and that was damn awful.

I actually really like the idea of RVD in NXT. It would be cool if he did a promo saying how it reminded him of the old ECW and how it's the place to be etc. I think there are much better matches for RVD there than the main roster.

I love RVD, and I agree with the post a few above this that states that NXT is a perfect place for RVD.

I think bridges have been built between them, like Bret and Shawn. RVD is great, he even interacted with me twice on twitter too. I said your name sounds like Jeanne Claude Van Damme, I thought you were brothers. I then said excellent banter lol. He is truly one of a kind.
