Anyone grow up or live near any professional athletes? There's not a lot of pros from central VA but the ones we have are decent. I rode the school bus with Kerry Wynn (DE for the NY Giants), Justin Verlander grew up about 20 minutes from where I did, Jarrett Parker (just called up by the SF Giants yesterday), David Wright/Ryan Zimmerman/Michael Cuddyer come from the VA beach area.
I'm sure this thread has been made before but I'm curious.

Know Jesse James, tight end for the Steelers personally. Went to school with him and was in the class above him with his brother.
Swan Cash is from my area, she has a performance center that I used to be able to spot from my old house.
Mike Logan, former Steeler DB is from the same area as Cash.

Growing up Patrick Ewing lived on my block. Doc Gooden lives around the corner from me. Victor Cruz comes to my ice cream shop and Julio Franco, when he was with the mets used to come to my diner.

AJ Lee and Bam Bam Bigelow are like 20 minutes away. Not an athlete but I ran into Bon Jovi a couple months ago at a shopping outlet. He was with his family so i didn't greet him.

Randall Cobb (GB Packers WR) was 7 years behind me in High School. He got my autograph (as a 4th grader) after we won a State Championship in 2000. I got his autograph 11 years later after he signed with the Packers. I think he did better then I did! HAHA! I actually saw him a couple weeks ago at his football camp here in town.

Muhammad Wilkerson from the Jets was a year younger than me in high school. His mother still lives in town so he's always here. I saw him at a red light a few weeks ago. He also has a charity bowling and camp here.

Junior Seau grew up in Oceanside CA which is like the next town from mine about 10 minutes.
Marcus Allen is also another local guy.
NASCAR great Jimmie Johnson is from El Cajon.
Stephen Strasburg, Phil Mickelson, Shaun White, and Bill Walton are all from here as well.

I live in rural Ga with one stop light in the entire county. Our school is the smallest high school classification, so we don't expect much.
Kevin Brown (pitcher) was from here. My sister was best friends with his niece growing up. Met him once as a kid.
Bud Dupree was just drafted by the Steelers in the 1st rd.
Herschel Walker, who is a national treasure to many Georgians, is from my mom's hometown 30mins away. My dad worked with his for a while.

Shaun Livingston is from my area. We all watched him play high school basketball for Central. So he's a hot topic right now. I've played pickup with him before at Landmark, which is a big local gym for area basketball players, particularly over the summer.
Jim Thome is from our area as well and lives about 10 minutes from my parents house. My dad hunts with him sometimes and is good friends with his brother. Awesome guy and he always got us tickets over the years to see him play.
Joe Girardi is also from where I'm from. I've only met him once, in STL when he was managing the Marlins, but he was very nice when I brought up where I was from. He signed a ball for me.
Dick Jauron, Mike Zimmer, AJ Guyton, and Sherrick McManis are all from where I grew up. US Olympic figure skater Matt Savoie is a bit of a local celebrity too I suppose and is from our town. I was a hockey player though, so him tearing up our ice mostly just pissed me off.

I live in Lewiston, Idaho, which is about 100 miles south of Spokane, Washington. Jake Scott is a former NFL offensive lineman from my city and the NAIA World Series is held there as well. The home team the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors won the title and I got to meet several of the players.

There was a pitcher named Humberto Sanchez who went to a school near me. His biggest claim to fame was being part of the trade that sent Gary Sheffield from the Yankees to the Tigers.
Also, I have a ton of family from Woodbine, New Jersey which is very close to Millville, New Jersey, hometown of Mike Trout.

Brandon Webb (Old D-Backs pitcher) went to school bout 35 minutes from my town.
OJ Mayo and Pat Patterson are from my hometown. Played ball with them when I was younger.
Randy Moss and Jason Williams are from about 30 minutes away my town.
Jerry West is from about 35-40 minutes away from my town.
That's just from the top of my head.

The NY Jets training camp is near my workplace. Every once in a while, a few football players come in for lunch. I don't follow it, but my boss does & he gets all giddy.

The guy who took Brady's knee out a few years back. F**K that guy. (Patriots fan) Jarrod Parker is from here. Starting Pitcher for Oak A's. Jon Fitch, UFC fighter DaMarcus Beasley - pro Soccer player (quite possibly the most famous athlete to come out of Fort Wayne, internationally) There are multiple others, but I think those are the ones of note people would likely know by name.

Mason Ryan, he used to live about 30 minutes from where I am. He came back recently to do a wrestling show in his hometown.
