I checked brickseek this morning after dropping my daughter off for school and saw a local Target had went from 0 to 16 overnight. Having been fooled by the site over the weekend, I went to Target excited but skeptical.
On Saturday and Sunday, brickseek had shown another local Target with a new shipment in so I checked both days on break at work. Both days showed multiple quanities but only a couple of HOF 1 figures on the shelf ( luckily was finally able to get a Trish). Defeated, I went back to work annoyed at both the site and my luck. I assumed that someone had grabbed HOF 2 (as the quantities were in line with HOF 2 breakdowns) and the site didn't update for the sale.
Cut to me this morning at Target right after they opened. The employees were still stocking the shelves from pre-open and I figured (no pun intended) I was about to hit the Jackpot. Honestly, I only wanted Eddie from this run anyway so I thought my odds must be good. I get to the WWE aisle and....NUTHIN'. Absolutely squat for the HOF series. As a matter of fact, they had covered the HOF pegs with e33 Elites and they all had the infamous grey dots on the tags. I decided to give it a little bit of time as the stockers were still working in other aisles and walked around for about 1/2 hour to see if they had made any progress in that area. I also checked the price scanner, using the DCPI # which showed that there were 0 in the stock room. Time was up, I checked and not one single thing had changed. How could this be? Had I been "Hornswoggled" again? What was happening? Out of desperation, I made my move.
I found the associate stocking the Legos and asked him if he could check for a figure based on a DCPI #. He looked at my KO shirt and made the connection that I was after a wrestling figure. "Well, what are you looking for?"
"I'm looking for the new WWE HOF series 2 figures."
"Who are you looking for?"
"Eddie Guerrero."
A beat.
"Ok. Wait over there (by the action figures) and I'll be right back."
I assumed he was going to go check his stock cart but instead I saw him duck back down by the Lego aisle again. About 30 seconds go by, here comes the associate holding my brand new, absolutely perfect Eddie Guerrero figure. We talk figures for a second or two, I thanked him and went on my way. As I'm leaving, I pass by the Lego aisle once more and see no stock cart or any sign of boxed figures. I can only conclude that he had a stash of figures somewhere within the Lego aisle and was planning on being the gatekeeper as to who would get them.
I guess the moral of the story is that chances are, brickseek is 95-100% close to accurate and if you do not find the figures you are looking for they are probably being kept out of the public eye on "purpose". My assumption is that this is the same situation that happened at the other Target where I couldn't find the new series as both had quantities on the the website but the price scanner showed nothing in the backroom, scanned out of the stockroom to be on the floor but nowhere on the pegs.
Don't take first sight at face value and always bother an associate if you can't find what you are after, who knows where they might turn up (trust me I hate saying that as I am a salesman as well and get pegged with constant questions!).
Happy Hunting and come on Horsemen!
tldr; Ask an associate things are not always as they appear
