WWE booked Michael Cole to take a Brock Lesnar F5 this week on Raw. Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio says that it was then announced later in Raw that Cole had suffered a “cervical fracture” and “damaged vertebrae” in the attack. This is of course the same injury that ultimately caused Perro Aguayo Jr to die in the ring at a AAA show in Mexico on March 20th. Meltzer and the wider wrestling community have expressed disappointment with WWE’s booking mirroring this real life incident. While it was probably a genuine oversight on WWE’s part, you have to consider how many people behind the scenes read the script. What has taken place is either ignorance or insensitivity. The WWE website is continuing to report that Cole suffered a “possible cervical fracture.” It is of course just a storyline and the 46 year old announcer is fine. Perro Aguayo Jr legitimately died after suffering a fractured spine which triggered a cardiac arrest during his match with Manik against Rey Mysterio Jr and Xtreme Tiger a couple of weeks ago. WWE talent, including Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, tweeted their condolences. So they absolutely knew about the story and the circumstances. How terrible that they then allowed a script to go out that used the exact same injury in a fictional light.

Just cause they know he passed does not mean they knew the autopsy results. I don't think they would do this intentionally.

It's pretty disappointing for Meltzer to draw attention to this. I severely doubt it's anything more than a coincidence.

I'm sure this was just a coincidence...why would he draw attention to it?

It's probably just a major oversight by the WWE. I highly doubt they meant to be malicious.

I believe it to be a coincidence, nothing more.
They're not that petty, surely...

Nah I just see this as a dumb coincidence.
Granted they could have gone with a number of different injuries, but they obviously chose a serious one (the timing is bad, but I don't see it as intentional) in order to show how much of a beast Brock is.

Ugh. Should have been "anal bleeding." The F-5 was so brutal that it caused his anus to rip in half

Dave Meltzer has always and will always be a skid mark in the business.

I'm guessing it just showed the WWE another type of injury possible from the impacts of in-ring moves. How many concussions and broken bones have we seen already, storyline wise? They probably wanted something that sounded more legit and logical, by WWE standards.

makes absolutely no sense, morals aside, for wwe to reference it - why draw bad publicity on wrestling?

I'm not surprised they said that, just them being petty again.
