OK, I am not stupid, so I know what "No DQ" means, "No Disqualification", but what exactly are the rules on this?
I ask because, watching the Sting / Triple H match last night, I found myself wondering. D-X and the nWo were allowed to come into the ring and attack the two combatants and bats and sledge hammers were allowed in the match with no problem, but when Sting had Triple H in the Scorpion Death Lock and Triple H grabbed the ropes... Sting HAD TO RELESASE the hold!
Why didn't Sting just hold onto him until he either "passed out" or "gave up"? It just seems to me like holding onto a finisher after the ref said let it go would pale in comparison to extra wrestlers and foreign objects being used. Have I been missing some intricate part of this rule all these years? Shouldn't "No Disqualification" mean "NO Disqualification"?! The rules are what I tell you they are, damn it! the OP has a good point, but... this sums it up perfectly!

It's a courtesy between wrestlers that you release the hold when grabbing the ropes. An "honor" type thing....
Really, in a NO DQ match, the referee should ONLY be counting pins & looking for submissions.... but if you watch them, they're doing counts on all kinds of things....
If I could be serious for a moment..... it's always bugged me, too.
